I can't back away so good anymore since they cut the tag end of that Left Leg away.
And I refuse to be a whipping post.

I carry for self-defense. I am not a big person, quite tiny actually and it has been proven when I have too, I can not defend myself. I need to protect myself, my children. It is my job to make sure they are taken care of and I can not do that if some sycho gets a hold of me and kills me first, or them. I carry, because I have the right to protect my family, I carry to save lifes.

I guess I carry for the same reason that I believe in seat belts, health, car, and home insurance, and motorcycle helmets. I can't predict the future.
I have a little tale that illustrates my point. About a year ago, I walked into my back yard and was confronted by two enormous (I swear, they looked HUGE at the time) German shepherds. They both came at me, snarling. My revolver popped into my hand like a magic trick (practice is a good thing) and they both stopped, spun around, and ran. I have no idea how they knew what a gun was, perhaps it was just the change in my body-language but, whatever it was I'm convinced that I would have been seriously injured without it. How the hell could I have forseen that? It was my own damned yard. In town!

The reason I carry. Oh well.
Crime and victims always have and always will be with us.
I have no control over crime in that I can't stop it.
I do have some control over being a victim though. If I stand by and let a scumbag committ a crime against me or mine, then I become an accomplice in that crime by letting it take place. If I stand by and let someone else get hurt or killed by my inaction, I am equally guilty.
If I am not ready to defend myself and someone near to me, than I have no business carrying and should wear the mantle of sheeple around my neck for all the world to see. It is impossible for the police to prevent crime (with a few exceptions), all they can do in most cases is deal with the aftermath and write reports on what took place.
It is up to each man or woman to be the first line of defense against the scumbags and evildoers.
Thank you , the soapbox is now free.
