I got to fire one of my buddy`s xp100`s a while back chambered in .221 fireball.
We were shooting groups with his pistol at 100 yards that would rival some rifles.I was amazed at his pistol. He used 223 Rem Brass and reformed it to 221 Fireball.Quite a task I might say.

I asked him why he did it and he said I cant find it.I sent him the link that evening to Lockstock.com and he bought a 100 rounds of Rem Brass for it.

I know they chambered these pistols in different cartridges.I seen one in a pawn shop about 5 years ago chambered in 7mm BR.I didn`t have the money for it or I would`ve snatched it up in a heartbeat..

Any of you fellas have one?

Timber i had three  in the 221, back in the 70's . I loved hunting groundhogs with these pistols. The biggest trouble in those days was trying to find a decent scope for them . Pistol scopes where crap with the Bushnell Phantom being the best but only 2.5 power with a very narrow field of view. We put 10 power weaver varmint scopes on them but you had very little eye relief so had to shoot of sandbags only or the truck hood. My Fireballs with the Hornady 50 gr SX and 4198 would group under 1/2 inch at 100 yards all day long. If you can find one at a reasonable price , buy it, you won't be sorry . Rem brass is available again since they chambered their Classic Mod 700 in this cal and their new Varmint rifle.

Heres mine,

It's in .35 Remington. Thats a Burris 2-7X sitting on top in Leupold Mounts. The stock is a Fajen I bought on a closeout from Midway. Overall it's been a good performer.  billt

Bill that is pretty derned good.I know a few rifle shooters that cant do that good with a bolt action rifle.

Hey bea,Yup he had a Bushnell 3x9 on it and we had to shoot it like a rifle resting it on bags.It was excellent though cutting bullet holes all the time with it.I`d coyote hunt with one if I had it..

I think the better question is, who the hell can afford to by one of the suckers now-a-days?  At local shows, even the ones in lessor condition seem to be selling at a premium.  And they seem to be fewer and farther between sightings, too.  If ya have'm, don't let'm go, fellas.  Later.  >>  klallen

I didn't know about the price spike with these things. Yet another Remington boondoggle. When I bought mine I had an FFL at the time, but the distributer I purchased it from told me they were really selling well. For years the only caliber that Remington offered these things in was .221 Fireball. Then they started offering them in larger, more potent calibers and they took off. Then, for some reason, they (Remington),  discontinued them. I guess thats what happens when you have bean counters running a firearms company instead of knowledgeble shooters that really know the sport, and whats demanded of it. I think if they would have kept production up on these things they would have seen more profit then they are now realizing from all their SAUM's, which im told, aren't selling well at all.  billt

I would like to find one in the 7mm Benchrest , would make a good Whitetail pistol. I just killed a crow at about 150 yards with my 7mm-08 Encore. Dropped straight out with the Moly 110 Speer TNT with Varget. The Encore is a good replacement for the XP100 since they are very hard to find these days.

Hey Bill. That 7x47 sounds real interesting.I `ve never seen one.A while back I looked over a custom rifle a fella had chambered in 6x47.It was extremely accurate and he used it as a varmint rifle.Amazing how well adaptable the little 223 Rem case is...

Have several of them and for the last 8 or so big game seasons have used them almost exclusively on big game.

I have a very old 221 fireball that shoots so well with its 2x leupold scope I will not say as I will get called a liar!!!

Also have a 7mm BR, 6.5mm WSM and a 338 WSM.

All are exceptionally accurate

Heres the 338 WSM.  Drive the 180 gr Ballistic Tip to 2950 fps with 1/2 moa groups to 400 yards.

This is my highest scoring exotic ram taken with the 338 WSM XP-100.

This is my 6.5mm WSM.  Shoots the 120 gr Ballistic Tip to just shy of 3100 fps and is even more accurate then the 338.  Much lighter to pack in the field as well.  Used this handgun to take a big mule deer doe at 330 yards this last season, worked extremely well.

I am just finishing up an XP-100 chambered in 7mm-270 WSM which will be used for an Outdoor Channel filmed 1000 yard shooting sinemar as well as an attempt to reach 1 mile with the handgun after that.  Just shot the first few groups out of it today and it looks promising so far so we will see!!!

I love them but they are getting hard to find for sure.  Generally buy up everyone I can find under $500, not to many are below that these days.

Good Shooting!!

Timberghozt,

You may not believe this but the ranked in the order of heaviest recoil to lightest felt recoil, here is the ranking of my four XPs:

7mm BR

221 Fireball

338 WSM

6.5mm WSM

Now I know no one will believe this but honest to god the WSM do not even twitch from recoil hardly.  Feel very similiar to a 22 LR semi auto handgun.

Now they have a very significant muzzle blast which is an event in and of itself but still not bad enough to where I can not shoot them in the field without ear protection once or twice.  As of yet have not needed to take more then one shot at game at a time.  Knock on wood!!!

Hello, first time poster. I have one in 223 Rem and can shoot the clothes pins off the target at will at the 100 meter range. I have been looking for one in 7mm to use for

whitetail duty. Anybody have one they want to part with please fire me an email.

From all the other posts though, probably not!!

My 223 has the factory nylon stock , complete with the white diamond forend.

I am sold on the centrally located grip on the XP.  I have tried the Thompsons

and the Custom shop XP's and have wished they would have kept the

old style in production. I currently have a Savage Striker in 308 Winchester,

but have been dissappointed with all the creep and junky factory trigger action

that it came with. I am thinking of having some trigger work done very soon!!

Anybody know of a drop-in after market fix for it, send me some info.

Back to the centrally located grip pistols, I seem to recall one by Magnum Research

that had a twist open chamber?? Any one have one of these?? I might be interested

in hearing how they shoot.

Hey Tumbleweed.Welcome to our corner of the web.I don`t have a clue where to find a trigger for your Striker.Maybe and a big maybe,Midway might have something.I don`t know about Brownells..

I shot an XP that belonged to a buddy of mine chambered in 221 Fireball.I`m not going to say how accurate it shot with his handloads because you wouldn`t beleive me if I told you.But I was more than impressed with his.If I ever run across an XP chambered in anything and its reasonable,I`m buying one for myself....
