Hey fellas. Do any of you have experience and/or opinions on the High Point brand of auto's? They seem awfully cheap in price, and would like to know if they are just as cheap in quality. A guy at work has a little .380 for sale, and I am considering it.
Thanx.

I've never owned one of these but have seen a pretty full line of them that our local shop carries. They say they sell like wild-fire. Not sure exactly what that means.
My only thought is, as with most things, you get what you pay for. It's fine to spend $130 on an semi-auto but in doing so, you kinda forfeit the right to complain about any reliability issues you may experience. Truth be told, at that price, I'd be more suprised if there weren't issues.
For a casual plinker, High Point firearms might very well be a decent choice. For personal or home self-defense, where reliability is of utmost importance, I'd spend much more money for something you can count on.
Good luck to ya with the decision. If ya do choose to buy it, make sure to log in a full report from the range. Chat with you later. >> korey

Over on corral.net is a thread about a guy in Oklahoma City that bought a new one, took it to the range, and it fired out of battery. It injured the guys hand, destroyed the gun.

I wouldn't bet the farm on one-----yet it is better than throwing rocks---would check it for function/reliability then put it away Save a few bucks and get the Charles Daley HP

I agree with klallen. You get what you pay for. Never any more, and sometimes less.

If you are loking for something for your wife, I definately would not recommend ANY blowback operated 9x19 handgun. If you want an auto pistol for her, you might check out a Makarov, a PA-63, a Bersa .380, or something similar to those. They work, are not terribly expensive, and won't beat her up with recoil, or have a recoil spring so stout she cannot cycle the slide.
All the above can be found for $200 or less in many areas.
