I am going with Barnes pistol bullets the next time I load some in my .454. I saw one a buddy recovered that was amazing. It opened to more than twice the original diameter with four sharp copper petals and retained 100% of its original weight. They are damn expensive, but from what I have seen, they are the best. I recovered a Hornady XTP from my .454 and it lost from 240 grains down to around 180 grains. Go Barnes. Just my opinion.

Evening Gene  >>  I have the heavy for caliber bullet, moderate velocity thing going in all my revolver rounds.  I'd stick with that theme.  If it were my .480, I'd be looking at a 370 - 410 gr. Cast Performance LBT solid.  None of the animals you mentioned really require that heavy a bullet but I've found these heavy bullets to be extremely accurate and then tend to be a little more manageable at their moderate speeds then the quicker snap of the lighter bullets at quicker velocities.  That's my impressions, anyways.  Going heavier and slower, you're not going to loose anything penetration wise.  There's plenty of capacity to that case ensuring nice performance regardless of which weight you chose.

One thing's for sure, if you aren't into handgun hunting and big bore handgun reloading and shooting yet, mess with that .480 long enough and you'll be feeding the fix just like the rest of us.  LOL.  Good luck to ya with the reloading.  >>  korey
