Hello, I am thinking of adding a Hi-power to my collection of pistols.  I would like to hear everyones experiences god or bad with the various brands that are out there. I realize nothing beats a good Browning or Fn model but for comparison i want to hear about the others.. The Daly's, the FM or Argentines and any others.. Thanks, Steve

I've never been in love with the HighPower. Only one I ever fired belonged to an uncle. It was beautiful Belgian made gun, from the late 50's/early 60s. The only thing I remember clearly was the safety lever was (1), very tiny, and (2) very stiff.

Finest 9mm ever built IMO!!

I have 3 of them, one with nazi proof markings from when Germany occupied Belgum in WW2.

The only other 9mm I care to own is the CZ-75, another fine pistol and I have a CZ75B in my collection.

My father picked up a Highpower in 1942 in North Africa. Carried through North Africa, Sicily, Southern Italy, Anzio, France, Luxemburg, Germany and into Austria. He gave it to me several years ago and I have passed it on to a nephew that will treasure it.

That gun has fired just about every kind of 9mm that can be found, for the last 65 years. Although the bore looks like a cave, it still shoots very accurately. Entirely dependable.

The Browning HP is one of the finest handguns ever built. The one with Adjustable sights shoots like a Target 22 lr semi-auto. I have owned more than a dozen in the last 20 years and consider them the best single action pistol ever produced, including the 1911. The only draw back is the cal 9mm and believe the pistol would have bypassed the 1911 if it had been offered in 45 ACP from the beginning. The safety is small but still works very well . My only complainant was the magazine disconnect which i removed from all my HP before ever shooting them. Just my opinion.

It's all about ergonomics.  The Hi-Power is ergonomically built for comfortable shooting.  I've taught a few ladies how to shoot with one and even if one has small hands, the HP does it hands down.  Just have slimmed down grips and round off all the sharp edges and it feels like a winner.  If one wants a larger thumb safety, you can order one from various sources.  I've never seen a HP that wasn't accurate.  As much as I've liked the various Glocks, the HP will beat 'em out accuracy-wise.

I have one of the newer Browning HP's and it is really nice.

I also have a FEG copy that is just about as nice. 199.00 vs 579.00. Guess which one gets shot the most?

I've owned several BHP's, most were early 70's model Belgian made fixed sight models. All of them shot well with ball ammo but needed a little help with JHP rounds, this was/is a common problem with the older BHP models. At one time I owned the fully tricked out Renascence model BHP with adjustable sights, it was pretty and shot well, but to gaudy for my tastes. I still own the first HP I purchased, but now it has low mount Bomars and an action/ trigger job, so it's not really the same animal it started out as. In my opinion the newer HP's are a better made pistol out of the box, the just don't have the cache of the older models.

The early war model BHP I have experience with had a slightly oversized barrel, .357". So I reloaded 357 JHP revolver bullets in it. They worked perfectly 100% of the time. They worked great on jackrabbits. This was the Highpower with the tangent sight to 800 meters. I shot at a car body at 1/2 mile and occaisionally hit it.

I took my FEG model to the range and printed an entire 17 round magazine on a sheet of typing paper at 100 yards (I fired from a support for my hands over a baracade) just to show my son and his Army buddys that a pistol can be bad news. They were impressed, I was too.

i like the browning  and most i have shot seemed fine (kind of like the sks -if they function they do it decently )i also have had the feg copies -the single action  tho adequate did take the same mags and grips, the double action was the one i kept tho ( even with requiring  special clips and having no better grips available) while only decent at 25 yards  mine is wonderful at 100 yards and sitting up skeet for targets if i missed  it was rare ! but i also have to admit that when it comes to the lil nine i much prefer the ruger p-89, happy shooting( the best way to get empty brass)
