Very nice looking! That safety lever looks pretty big. Does it get in the way of anything?

No , it is about the same size as the one that came on the pistol. It is the extended combat type.

Has one of those ever been used in combat or is that just the name of it?

You must really like 1911s. I have never owned more than 1 at a time. One always seemed to be enough for me. I do however own 2 ARs and 2 garands. It took me a long time to overcome the prejudices I acquired against 1911s while in the Army. My last two months in Veitnam I went back to Battailion to be supply officer. They took my M16 and issued me a 1911. I took it out to the perimeter and fired 7 shots at a rock about the size of a refrigerator about 30 yards away. No marks on the rock. I got my M16 back, I was pretty comfortable with it by this time.

I carried a 1911 in the Military when i was at Fort Campbell and at 25 meters i could keep all the shots inside a 6 inch circle. I qualified expert with every thing i picked up. By the way i do love 1911 pistols.

You must have had a better one than I was issued. I qualified sharpshooter with the 1911, expert with everthing else. That includes M14A1E2, Browning 50 cal, M60 and M14.
