I know I know.. its a hi point.. but i got it for cheap as hell.. well now i know why.. it jams on every shot..
here is the problem. first i am shooting magtechs 165 gr fmj i think, they fire ok from my glock but with every round in the hi point the empty fails to eject and the bolt goes forward forcing the next round in, causing a jam as well as damaging the brass. I shot a few rounds of blazer ammo i had on hand that seemed to do ok. I guess i am wondering if maybe that magtech is under powdered and doesnt allow the slide to goto the rear allowing the empty to eject. they say this is +p+ rated so i am thinking about working up a couple of hot rounds and seeing what happens... anyone think this is a bad idea or is there an easy fix for it.
This gun is gonna be my stay in the trunk gun for a absolute, everything else fails, need a gun gun.. so i wont be using it for CC or anything like that, i would just like to get it so i can shoot a few rounds in a row without a jam.
thanks guys.. you are always so helpful

So if I understand it correctly, your gun extracts but fails to eject? Probably a burr inside the eject spring recess. The ejector should be held into place by a small pin either through the top of the slide or the left hand side of the slide(I am not completely familiar with this particular beast). So first remove the slide,****AFTER YOU MAKE SURE THE GUN IS UNLOADED**** take small punch and push the ejector retaining pin out. The ejector is under pressure from the ejector spring and may go into orbit if you dont place a towel or something against it. Once the ejector and spring are free, wrap a small bit of emery cloth(about 400 grit) around a small nail or tooth pick, and carefully hone the inside of the recess. Use a sparing amount of oil while doing this. Remember that you are just trying to polish, not remove excessive amounts of metal.
Try this out and let us know how it worked.

Blowback designs generally don't like higher pressures than they are designed for. I suspect it isn't the peak pressure, but the pressure curve of light bullet/higher pressure that is causing the failure to extract/feed. Try some standard pressure 180 grain loads and see what happens.
I've seen some High Points work reliably, but they do seem to be picky, and like one bullet weight/velocity.
I've also seen some shed parts of extractors and bits of breechface from the slide, too. Guy was shooting one for a CHL qualification, parts flew up and to the right. Glad I was down the line to his left...

| well i took the extractor off and shined everything up. I did notice that the pin was a little bent, so i straigtend it as best i could. after all that i put it all back together and went and fired it. i did get a few to eject but for the most part it still jammed although the round actually made the turn so the brass was facing out instead of feeding on top of the other round. regardless it still jammed. do i need to take it apart and try again, or maybe get a new pin for it.. any other suggestions would be helpful

I am now curious as to why the ejector was bent. If it were my gun, I'd send it back to highpoint. If you got the gun used and cannot return it, I guess my next step I would change to a heavier spring. Unfortunately I dont have a schematic for this one, so thats about all the help I can offer.
If anyone has a link to a schematic for these highpoint guns I'd be interested in looking at it.

| There is a Hi Point forum,, go to hipointforums.com. I understand a lot of the problem with the blow back type s/a's is you have to keep a stiff wrist for the blow back to function correctly. I'm sure you can also get a diagram from them. I bought a new C9 9mm last week for $109.00, too cheap to pass up. I haven't been to the range with it yet. I will shortly if the wind ever drops below 90 mph.

First off visit the HiPoint Firearms Forum at http://www.hipointfirearmsforums.com/Forum and browse thru the Carbine section.
Second.. Contact Beemiller Inc and make arrangements to send the gun back for a factory inspection and fix, this is especially good since you picked the gun up used and who knows how/what the previous owner did.
As far as HiPoint Carbines... I have the 9mm 995 and absolutely love it. Never once had an issue with it in the 1k+ rounds I have sent down range. To top it off the thing is so darn accurate its almost boring to shoot now days. Price tag on mine was $149 used at one of my favorite gun shops.
