If I wanted a bit more out of a CCW revolver, beyond what I can expect with a .357 round, and I wanted to keep the gun as miniscule as possible, what would be my choices? Is there a niche in there for a 41 mag or 10mm in a ultra small ,ultra light configuration? I know S&W makes the 10mm revolver ( 610, I think?). But it seems to be to large for a CCW.
Charter Arms makes the bulldog in 44 spec. Yikes. Heavy, ugly, poorly manufactued ,ect
Smith is making the new Night Guard but seems better suited as a night stand gun than a CCW.

| My son and I carry Bulldogs. Ugly? Perhaps. Heavy? 20oz. empty. Stuffed full of 250gr HP's, a bit heavier. Poorly made? I'm not sure what you mean. Strong as hell and more accurate than they have any right to be.

Taurus and Rossi (before they combined) both made 5 shooters in .45 ACP. Not beautiful revolvers but they seemed ok. You might look for one of those.
For me, once you get past .357 cylinders, tghe cylinder diameter gets to big to be easy to carry. I occasiolaly carry a Smith 36, but 99% of the time my carry guns are autopistols.

I realized after I made that posting I was going to offend someone. My apologies.
My experiences with the charters arms agent and the bulldog were less than exemplary. Granted these were well worn pieces, that didn't receive much maintainence.

No offense taken. It's something I hear often. They are crude and not something to show to your friends, unless you're at the range. So far, ours have endured several thousand rounds of 250gr loads in the 900fps+ range with no sign of wear. I do believe that all Bulldogs should come with a tube of Loctite. Also, the recoil can be rather shocking to those used to 1911's, etc.
They are not for everyone. No doubt about that. But, I've spent a lot of time developing loads (custom molds, etc.) for them and have become kind of fond of the ugly little things.

My Bulldog Target sat up and growled a little when I read about how bacly it sucks. My other one (a "Pug") probably did too, but it's in the safe, so I didn't hear it.
But seriously ... I haven't noted those characteristics in either one of my Bulldogs. They do lack the mass to tame recoil, so finding grips for it that fit your hand helps, and judicious choice of defense load can work in your favor. Within reach as I write this is my Bulldog Target with 5 rounds of CCI Blazer 200gr Gold Dot HPs. They're a handful, as is shooting it with just about any standard .44 Spl loading. I practice with it enough to be competent and safe, but I can't say its a lot of fun after the first 5 rounds or so. I don't carry it - it's strictly a house gun.
As for accuracy, well ... a picture's worth a thousand words.
