I hate to say that S&W has discontinued the Wonderful K-Frame 19 & 66 357 magnums . I have shot more 357 mag loads in these pistol over the years than any other brand of 357's. I just gave my 2.5 inch Model 66 to my brother and hopes he holds on to it because one day i may get it back. Everything come to a end , no matter what.:sad:

This is the first I've heard of that and it really stinks.  The 19 and 66 are two of the best guns S&W ever put together.

I just bought one last year. I thought I need one. I now have a S&W stainless in 22LR, 357 & 44.

I don't see any of the S&W older models like trhe 27, 28 or 29 in the used gun case too.  There has to be a lot of them out there because they were so popular at that time.  I guess most are hanging on to them.    Could the Wheel guns be dying out??    I wonder what the future of wheel guns will be?                               BB

Wheel guns will continue. The 1911 is still going strong after 94 years, the single action is on the increase (there is even a peacemaker clone made in the USA that rivals the Colt). All gun designs tend to have popularity swings, and right now autos are dominating.

I carried a ss Charter Arms Undercover in 38 for 17 years in an ankle holster or an upside down shoulder rig. My back up was an Iver Johnson TP-22 (Walther THP copy) 22LR in my back pocket. I was (and am) afraid of autos. Although I am willing to sleep with a S&W 65 under my pillow, I am still uncomfortable with a 1911 cocked and locked (yes I know better, and I've carried one). I now have a Taurus Millenium PT-145 that I happily carry with the safety off and a Kel-Tec P-11. Both are my "heavy clothing" carries. I work in shorts and a tee shirt, so a Kel-Tec 3-AT in 380 with a belt clip is my "light clothing carry". What will I carry in Alaska on a hunt? S&W 44MAG 629. I still carry a 29 in a shoulder rig in cold weather.

Why not carry a revolver? Weight. My Kel-Tec 380 weighs 7.1 ounces empty. I bought a Taurus Titanuim 38, but sold it. I bought a Taurus Titanium 44 SPL belly gun and kept it. Why? Weight! Anyone that carries daily will agree, lighter is better. Most guys got no butt to hold up their pants, and I always hated my pants dragging down. That's why I carried in an ankle holster. Now I'm old and round, and the problem is worse.

What do I go for when something goes BUMP in the night? Something that starts with a 4. Model 29 or 1911. I keep both. Usually a revolver. Don't be there.

Ever try to find a good used outboard motor? When is the last time you saw a used Jon Boat for sale. Some things are such a good ideal that they get bought an squirreled away. How many Colt revolvers have you seen lately?

Smith is replacing the Model 19, 66 with a seven shot L frame with standard barrel and without the full length lug. Called the Model 620 i believe.

You're right Bea.  Yesterday I looked at a gun magazine in the store, (Shooting Times?), and it showed two new models.  One has adjustable sights and the other fixed.   I've never been to keen on the seven shot models.  I like a cylinder to have some beef to it.   Maybe that's just my old fashioned way of thinking.

There's nothing wrong with new models but they just don't have the look or the feel of the older ones.  The old 29 just feels right and the balance is perfect. The smaller grips just don't look or feel right I have to change to large pachmyrs grips on every handgun i own wether its an auto or revolver so i can grip it right. The larger older smiths felt right right out of the box with the larger grips. Just like the older ruger security six's too I made up my mind to try to buy everyone i see but you guys are right i don't see too many too often of those too.  My last find was $199 for a 6" 357mg security six while the smiths and the colts are $399.  I seen and bought one ruger ss in a year.  Its like trying to find a 41mag S&W or Ruger Redhawk.  Locally in the gun shop in the used cabinet the ruger 101 is leading the pack of wheel guns on how many were turned in and the flood of auto's is about 70% of the whole selection so my point is what are people buying?? Most turned in auto's are 9mm's and the majority are S&W's and other not so popular manufacturters.  I wonder whats the hot ticket now?  And why there is such a flow of used guns? It just makes me wonder.                                                         BigBill

The ruger redhawk in 357mg and 41mag have to be great shooters with the size and the balance of the larger frame.  I wish Ruger would do a short run on them again.

Now with the 1911 most of the accidents I have seen were with the 1911 half cocked rather than cocked and locked.  I think the newer auto's with Double action rule in the cocked/locked vs. half cocked department.  I've never had a problem with mine but my golden rule is when its chambered its cocked and locked with any auto i carry. You need to set rules with auto's they don't play when they go off by accident.
