I would like to have a 480 in a Ruger Super Redhawk, at least I think I do. I have never shot this caliber in anything but just want one. I would like some opinions and comparisons to other big bore revolvers from other enthusiasts that have shot or owned a 480. I wouldn't want to spend the money and be disappointed. It kind of reminds me of a young woman I wanted to date when I was single. I knew who she was and she was a real beauty but after I had opportunity to talk to her, she was a real airhead. I don't want that to happen with a new revolver.

i've got a 7.5" 480 redhawk scoped with a nikon 2x.
not sure what you want to know, exactly, but my thoughts on it...
it is accurate - i have many groups that are less than 3" at 100 yards.
it is not obnoxious in either recoil or muzzle blast, and less obnoxious in both departments than a 357. it does not recoil as sharp as my 357's, and won't try to rip out of your hands like my 41 mag.
it is heavy. i carry mine in a shoulder rig that attaches to my hip. i know it is there.
it kills deer with authority.
handloading for it is mostly straightforward, but mind your ammo - bullet pull can be problematic.
factory ammo has not been a problem for me, but finding component bullets is mostly a mail order affair.
overall i am satisfied with the gun and feel it does a good job in covering my uses. i would not change anything on the platform except ruger does a pretty rough machining job on parts and pieces that are not readily visible.

Magnum Research's BFR in the .480R / .475LB has been of interest for a long while. Moreso for the Linebaugh then the Ruger, but I'm sure I'd fiddle with the smaller round over time.
We have one .480R in the family. As big bore revolver cartridges go, it is generally one of the more comfortable rounds to accurately handle. Loaded to factory specs, far more comfortable then my .454Casull (my personal fav in revolver rounds) and even feels more comfortable then my 320 gr. cast load in the .44RM. The .480 has been loaded to a point where it's less then comfortable, and would prove a handful for someone with little to no experience with big bore handguns, but for someone who's worked with the rounds, nothing outlandish. And you certainly don't need to load things like that if ya choose not to. As with any of these larger bore revolver rounds, the right heavy cast bullet (a personal preference) at moderate velocities proves to be an impressive performer. Moreso then lots would suspect, especially from a penetration and bone-breaking standpoint.
DAKOTA will be good source for ya on the .480, if you get one. From what I've seen here, he's got the most 1st hand experience with the round at the bench and in the field. Good luck with that decision. korey

I've got a 7.5" SRH in 454 ,everybody tells me that the 480 is quite a bit softer in the recoil department,
that casull round is stout in recoil and the 480 is suppose to be more of a push.
the next 2 things on my wish list are an AR in 308 and a 480srh
