i don't know about the most powerful rig there is but i've always kinda wanted a .357 max rig built on a stretched ruger superblackhawk frame with a 8-10" barrel......  my best friend has a .444 marlin tc contender he used in ihmsa matches.....   that was a handful to shoot!

I have the 357 Max, 444 Marlin, as well as 45 Win Mag barrels, with several others like 30-30 and 35 Rem. These are a handful to shoot.

If you understand hunting with a Contender, you get one shot, so you have to make it count.

I may have missed it in one of the other posts, but if not, the Pfeifer-Zeliska revolver chambered in the .600 Nitro Express I believe is the current "most powerful" as well as most expensive at over $15,000.

It's no joke, the unloaded cylinder weighs in at over 5 pounds and I believe to total weight is slightly over 15 pounds.  It can be seen at http://www.funis2cool.com/unusual/pfeifer-zeliska-600-nitro-express-revolver.html

There is also a youtube video making the rounds showing a 7 1/2 pound Thompson Center Contender chambered for the same round that depicts Newton's law of For Ever Action, There is An Equal and Opposite Reaction rather explicitly.  The guy is lucky to be alive.  But the Pfeifer - Zeliska is for real and can and has been safely fired.

I saw that on line I believe it was an Encore barrel since they're designed to withstand heavy large caliber loads like http://www.sskindustries.com ammo far beyond what the contender will handle.Read all about the development of the Encore on the sskindustries site!

I'll take a look at it, but I doubt we're talking about the same video.  This was only a 7 1/2 pound handgun firing one of the most powerful big game cartridges in the world that fires a 900 grain bullet at over 2050fps, and produces 8400 ft/lbs of muzzle energy.

The gun few out of his hand with such a velocity, had he not moved the gun to the right of his head when it was fired, it would have probably killed him.  As it turned out, it appeared the Contender traveling at high velocity, slammed into some kind of brick wall well behind the shooter and was probably destroyed.  Goggle .600 Nitro Express T/C Contender and you should be able to find the video.  Scary stuff really.  I  don't know what possessed someone to think they could fire a cartridge possessing that much energy in handgun weighing only 7 1/2 pounds.

Checked out the sskindustries site.  Lot of cool stuff but not the 7 1/2 pound .600 Nitro Express Contender.  Whoever sold this weapon to the fool in this video should probably be charged with attempted murder.  If you watch very carefully you may be able to see the gun flying towards the rear at a high rate of speed.  Audio is "interesting" as well.:lol:I really shouldn't be laughing.

F.

People try strange things to out do each other. I hunt coyotes with an 300 RUM, it just turns them inside out. I have stopped shooting G' Hog at 100 yards with a 22LR, and gone to my Mini 30, which I may try out my new 30-06 on them.

But J.D. Jones has gone big game hunting in Africa with a Contender pistol. That is really hard to beat that type of hunting when you are shooting the breeze at the local watering hole.

Don't know if I would choose to go dangerous game hunting in Africa with the most powerful round a contender could handle, or just drop the hammer on a .600 Nitro Express round at the local range with any gun weighing only 7 pounds.  Think I'm headed for Africa.  Fast.

I would love to see a "Super Sized"  ruger super redhawk in 500 S&W mag in S/S with a 15" barrel.  make it so most could shoot and handle it.  I'm sure if Elmer Keith  was alive we would see the revolvers even evolve farther than they did because of him.

lots of fellers have hunted the dangerous game of africa with their revolvers chambered in "true" handgun cartridges.

by the by, i don't consider rifle cartridges chambered in contender pistols "handgun" cartridges.

I just checked tc encore for their 15" 500 S&W mag barrel but they are selling it with a muzzle tamer an item I wouldn't buy,had one installed on my 15 inch 454casull barrel didn't tame it at all just made it noisy.I'd go to http://www.probed2000.com for a muzzle brake looks similar to a kdf,had one installed on my 15" 30-06 encore barrel & it reduced recoil   very well!

The Pfeifer -Zeliska .600 Nitro Express.  http://www.vincelewis.net/56k60magnum.html

Not a joke, and very expensive.  Nothing comes close.
