My 15" Encore with the score high muzzle brake  30-06 barrel is ok with 130gr bullets & 55gr of H4831SC, but my regular hunting load of 165gr Nosler solid base,58gr of IMR 4831 smarts a bit, a friend of ours who's a former usmc viet vet sniper found out when I ran out of 130gr & switched to 165gr loads but he still made the plastic cup he was firing at dance.

I picked up my Contender in '76 witha .38/357 barrel (with the "snake getter" screw in widget) and later a .222 to compliment a rifle I picked up.

My dad was the one that went nuts when he found a toy that he could "play with" and not break the bank with a multitude of different firearms. When he passed, he had 2 frames one was same as mine the other was the result of a horse trade for a swede he had in the mid 90s. He was doing 7mmTCU (14"), .30 Herrett, .357 Herrett (both Herrets are both the 6 and the 14" so 4 barrels in those calibrations), .223, .41, .44 mag and .30-30. Cuz none of my siblings were interested, yours truly got all the reloading gear and the firearms...

Im fond of the Herrets and the 7mmTCU for messing around at 100 yds...

D.

Here is my Merrill, just to be different. Those are 30-30, 30 Merrill, 32-20 and 22LR barrels. The high rise on the 22 is for unlimited standing when shooting steel. I am out of the Contender business, having sold my eleven TCs to a national shooting team. They now reside in SA. I do own a few XPs, 6x47, 6.5BR, 7TCU, 7x08, 260, etc.

Best,

Ed

A few years back I was in contact with fox ridge outfitter techs who hunted deer with their 7mm 08 contender pistols, they tried to talk me into buying an encore pistol barrel in 7mm08 but I already had a 454casull & an 06 and no whitetails to hunt just columbian blacktail & mule deer.

I have three Contender frames and barrels from the 221 Fire Ball to the 45 Win Mag, with many in between.

I have loaded the 45 Win Mag with 400 gr bullets and a stiff charge behind them. The 30-30 barrel I have is really great for G' Hogs. Currently I working out a load for my 7 TCU using 130 grain Soup Can cast bullets. And there are many more.

I do hunt with a Super 14 44 Mag Contender, it has the pachmayr grips and fore end on it and a nice Leupold scope. Been shootin' the Contender since the late 70s. I also have one of the orginal 223 Carbine kits.

One of these days I am going to trek up the road and visit SSK Industries, the home of J.D. Jones. He's about an hour and half or so away.

Jerry, some years ago JD advertised barrel stubs in different calibers and lengths. I picked a stainless .30 cal in .30 Mauser for the Contender. The nice lady asked what bbl length I wanted, to which I replied 7".

As it turned out, it had a 1-in-8 twist, and was cut off from some sub-sonic project that SSK was working on.

Curious, I scanned through Cartridges of the World and found the 7.63mm Mini Whisper. Using some of those loads and some from JD, this bbl is a great shooter. Out of the 7" bbl, a 150gr hits about 1500fps. With heavier slugs at sub-sonic velocities, it's very accurate. Also shoots 7.62x25mm Tokarev.

With this cartridge, I use only Starline brass for reloading.

SSK may have something interesting on hand. Good shooting,

I'm old school with my first model Colt Camp Perry single shot .22.  Nearly 80 years old and still a tack driver.

Back in my youth when gun clubs seem to be everywhere I had a Walther Sport model bolt action rifle that a single shot. My father brought it home from WW II. I did many matches with this rifle, wish I still had it.

The question was How many shoot single shot pistol's? Well I don't yet! Mine will be here next week. I am dreweling on my web screen every time I see one of you guy's nice pistol's. Mine will be a TC contender frame, 16.75 inc barrel, custom wood work, muzzle break, in 30/30 cal. Put the muzzle break on because my neck can't take much recoil. But I really just had to tell somebody about it. Thank's for listening.
