This one is mine. Remington XP-100 in .35 Remington. Thats a Burris 2-7X sitting on top in Leupold Mounts. I got sick of the plastic stock and bought this one from Midway on a Fajen closeout for $35.00. It was a drop in fit and shoots beautifully! billt

This is how it shot with factory ammo 15 years ago when I bought it. Since restocking and some careful handloading, groups have greatly improved.  billt

Nice pistol Billt.    The thought of buying one of these types of pistols has crossed my mind in the past.   Never have though.   I think I'd like a cartridge in the 243 or 260 range if I were to get one.

I have been using handguns almost exclusively for the last 10 years or so big game hunting and use the big single shots alot.  Started with the Encore but never really fell in love with the design.  Then I started using custom XP-100s and thats the end of the story.  These are my current two that I use now.

This is my 15" Lilja barreled 6.5mm WSM that I use mainly for deer hunting out to 400 yards.  The stock is a Fajen that originally looked like the one on your 35 Rem but I recontoured ot as I did not care for the thumbhole design and blind trigger guard.  I also have a Burris 2-7 in the saddles.

This handguns favorite load so far is the 120 gr Ballistic Tip loaded to just shy of 3100 fps.  I finished building it late last summer and just barely got it finished for big game season. I was able to fill my mule deer doe tag with this handgun with a one shot kill at 332 yards.  Broke the onside shoulder and exited just behind the offside shoulder.  She dropped in her tracks.

This barrel has a 1-8 twist for the long range VLD bullets which I will be testing this spring shooting out to past 800 yards.

With the Holland QD brake, this handgun has less recoil and muzzle jump then my 221 Freball XP-100!!

This is my "Hammer" if you will.  It also has a 15" Lilja barrel but is much heavier then the 6.5mm WSM.  Muzzle diameter on this barrel is 1.000" even compared to .700" for the 6.5mm.

Plus this barrel is fluted, more for looks then anything else.  This XP also wears a recontoured Fajen stock.

This one is chambered for he 338 WSM and drives the 180 gr Ballistic Tip to 2950 fps and the 200 gr Ballistic Tip to 2800 fps.  I had this handgun built before I got my gunsmithing shop built up which was to bad as the stock has cracked in the grip waist twice as the gunsmith who built it did not reinforce the grip like I asked him to.

When I get my shop up and running, I enbedded three hardened steel threaded rods down the grip and steel bedded then in place.  I then machined a heat treated aluminum bedding V-Block and fitted it into the stock.  IT now shoots 1/2 moa and has not had a problem.

It is not quite as accurate as my 6.5mm which will average groups in the .3" range for three shots at 100 yards, still the 338 was not fully accurized either which was another disappointment.

Still is shoots very well and I have used it to harvest alot of game including these two animals:

The mule deer was taken at 317 yards with a single 180 gr Ballistic tip through the lungs and the ram was take a bit over 200 yards after a half day stalk and another 3 hours waiting for the ram to walk out of the heard.

I have also used teh following rounds: 221(Contender & XP-100), 223 Rem(XP-100), 7mm BR(XP), 7mm-08(Encore), 270 Win(Encore), 7.21 Tomahawk(Encore-bad idea). 7mm RUM(Encore-another bad idea), 454 (Encore) and the 50 A.E.(Encore).

The versitility of the Encore is undeniable but for raw power and accuracy that most rifles, even custom rifles have a hard time matching, the XP-100 is by far my favorite big game single shot handgun.

Good Shooting!!

Kirby Allen(50)

I used the XP100 for a number of years back in the 70's in the 221 Firball. The biggest trouble in those days was trying to find a good pistol scope. I killed a number of crows and groundhogs with the XP and really was impressed with the little 221 Fireball round. I alway used 50 Hornady SX with IMR 4198 and Rem. Benchrest primers. This load would group under 1/2 inch all day long and i think it would have done better with a decent pistol scope. I had three XP100's and wish i had keep at least one of them.

The 30-30 in the Contender is hard to beat for a deer hunting weapon. The 30-30 is one the best whitetail round to ever come down the line, no matter what the so call experts or gun magazine people try to tell you. If it didn't work it would have been gone long ago.

ahh hand cannons..... my current passion( actually for the last several years  ) kind of curious about the 375 jdj but love the 375 win and 357 herret( 30 herret as well but..) having a delta  elite i bought a  10 mm barrel, even my hottest handloads were seeming like  .22 plinkers in that 14" pipe ..fingered around for a bit but now load  150 nosler's jhp's in it set to just shy of the rifling and it thumps like it was meant to ! ( or at least like i had originally hoped) my  7-30  shook the scope off ( have to get it tapped for bigger  screws and want to add a better  mount  but it was a confirmed varmit  killer-read that whitetail lolz)happy shotting( the best way to get  empty brass)

p.s. with any 30-30 parent case i recommend using  .375 win brass as it's alot stronger but keep in mind that that also translates to less case capacity ,the strength  IMO is worth the extra cost of the brass

My current assortment of Contender barrels consists of: a 7" SS 7.63mm Mini Whisper, which is a .30 Mauser w/ a 1-in 8 twist. With J.D. Jones' loads I can shoot sub-sonic with heavy (200gr) bullets, or 150 spitzer @ 1550fps. J.D. has loads for heavier bullets, but my bbl is not throated for them. Fun, and very accurate.   A 6.5x55mm 13" Shilen by Van Horn in Gilbert,AZ, one of the most accurate Contender bbls I have.    A T/C 30-30 S14 that has shot a few deer with a 165gr Remington bullet.  A T/C .35 Rem S14 that likes the Hornady 180 SP-SS.   A T/C .45 Win Mag S14 that I shoot 260 Speers in. I've had, over the years, several less popular barrels, including: 5.7mm Johnson, 7mm Intl. Rimmed, 6.5 TCU, .221 Fireball, .300 Whisper, and others. My scope preference is all over the map, with Redfield (old models), Burris, Tasco, and Millett.   A number of years ago when I didn't Know any better, I bought a S14 .444Marlin with a muzzle brake, rechambered from .44 mag. I got what I thought was good advice for loading a 240gr cast bullet, reduced that load and brought it to a friend's house out in the country. Sat down at his bench, took a firm grip with both hands and touched her off. Well let me tell you-it didn't matter about my two hands and firm grip, with the muzzle brake, the muzzle didn't come up, but the whole pistol came back and smacked me between the lookers, breaking my glasses at the bridge. Guess what? My friend refused to shoot it--smart move. I'd like to think I'm a little smarter these days.
