We had a thread about RBs for my 44 revoler and some mentioned a conical bullet that could be cast. I was wondering what mold that would be and the vendor for that mold?
Thanks,
Jerry

I was looking for a conical for my BP pistol and I think that the one is probably the best one for my purpose.

My 80's production Pietta .44 Colt 1860 Army repro came as a cased unit with a two-cavity mold - one for round ball and one for conical. I haven't used it yet, as I shoot only round balls that I have bought. I need to try it some time. The mold is brass, very similar to those I have seen of vintage civil war period molds.
When I got my first c&b revolver - a 70's production Pietta 1851 Navy repro - the store clerk gave my .457 roundnose flatbased bullets - totally wrong for this gun! It uses .451's quite nicely. He and I both had no idea at that time what we were doing. I had to load the bullets nosefirst into the chambers - whopping big wad-cutters!
I'm danged lucky I didn't blow it up. I did literally bounce six of them off a spongy old dead tree I used as a backstop! Heard the odd plopping sound after every shot. Looked down, to see the slugs at my feet....... a couple feet closer and I would have shot myself........

The Lee conical for 44s is an excellent black powder bullet. I cast them of pure lead and they work very well. I shoot them in both my Lyman Remington Army and My Uberti 3rd Model Dragoon replicas.
The Lee Bullet is very accurate in the Remington not so much in the Dragoon.
In the Remington I shoot it over 30 grains of 2F with a No. 10 Remington cap. This load will shoot a 2 inch group at 50 yards. But of course I can't do it.
In the Dragoon I shoot the Lee bullet over 60 grains of 2F with a No. 10 Remington cap. This load shoots 10 inches at 50 yards and is high and to the left. A better pistol shooter might do some better with it.

I use the LEE 200 grain mold for my .44 cap & ball Remington 1858......it is quite accurate, and I use the a similar load to what 72coupe uses: 30 grains FFFg and a CCI cap.
