I want to ship to my kids and a couple of friends some of the food we canned this year, I have bubble wrap and all of that, but how do I wrap this all up and pack it so FedEx Ground doesn't break the mason jars?
Attached is a picture of what I want to ship, with possibly some ammo in the same box.
Thanks,
Jerry

i forgot ...was it fed ex or fedups who played football with the packages ? lolz ..that plastic crate looked like it was just sittin there volunteerin' to be placed in side a larger box ,sadly the words "glass" and "fragile" seemed to be akin to targets etc ....add a thin foam liner around all the jars and puttin the whole thing in a big bag prolly wouldnt hurt in case of spills ,hardboard comes to mind ...the heavier it is it seems the more abuse it gets ( guess they cant muscle it or somethin ...) oh and cross ur fingers and pack very well( this end up fragile ) and add lots of insurance so they wont want to pay

Fry,
I have seen FedEx do their worst to some of my packages, so I have made wooden frames to put inside the box on a couple of things. I was thinking about getting some craft board whiskey boxes from the grocery store and starting with those. I have bubble wrap, poly bags, shrink wrap, packing peanuts and sheets of styro on hand, I do a lot of product shipping. But never shipped mason jars that were full of food. Plus I am a little low on air pillows at the moment.
The reason I use FedEx is they have a local terminal here, where UPS comes out of Wheeling or Columbus, they want me to use their service, but imposed too many rules and fees. Generally the USPS is the best way for me to ship small things.
So I have about three weeks to gets these crated up and off to FedEx. No one out here uses DHL because they dropped off a package for a jewelry store at the wrong address on the wrong street, actually at a gas station and didn't get a signature. The package vanished along with $12,000 in gems, so we don't use DHL.
Shipping is a challenge, big things I have an off loading place, but these are not big and they are not small, plus there is glass involved.
Thanks for the suggestions,
Jerry

Jerry, Buy a can of foam insulating spray. Put each jar in a plastic bag. Foam the bottom of the box about 2" deep.place the jars a couple of inches apart and foam around and overtop of them. Close the lid on the wet foam and tape securely. They'll have to cut them out but that's fun too. RD

I had thought of that, I have done that with some electronic equipment in the past. Maybe that is the best way, especially since they have the foam on sale.
Some where in these boxes I have to put a couple of 5 packs of heavy duty 12 gauge slugs. But FedEx is who I ship ammo thru, so this couple be fun.
Thanks,
Jerry

Put them in a jar of dry beans. Gotta be creative. RD
