How about lettin' the n00b chime in ? Well, I ain't so new, at least that fargin ugly bastage's wall picture inna bathroom says I ain't.
I grew up in SE Oklahoma. I liked it. I STILL like it. Yes, I got full ownership of all 900 acres all the way down till it gits hot then some further. Good pastureland. Cattle ranchin won't pay what I make here, so I lease it to a foo,,,er fella that thinks he is makin money. OK has no jobs to suit me (when I was looking) so here I am after living and loving N.C and CO for a spell. 21 yrs of the former and 3 yrs of the latter. I got tired of NC and CO got too cold for too long and is too dern far from the beach. (I love surf fishin fer Redfish and toothy critters, BIIIIG toothy critters)
So, here I am East of Houston. 8 hours from all the OK huntin' I can stand, 20 minutes from a nice club range. I am less than 1 1/2 hrs from the Gulf. Gonna have a place there one day, Lord willin. ZZ Top hails from Texas, so I figger there must be sumpin onna ball with Tejas. The Mexicans don't bother me much till I go prowlin around H-Town and get offa the beaten path. I ain't had to skin no steel on nobody, so I must be gettin' along fine. Mex food suits me too ! Sales tax is eight point two five where I sit. Property and school taxes kinda sux, but what ya gonna do ? Cheat ? (takin the 5th AND the litre there)
We got both seasons here. Summer and Christmas day. I find it tolerable and preferable over freezin my bean off. I DO miss huntin' Rudy's (Ringnecks) and Elk. I will get over it, not doin much huntin these daze anyhow. Unless ya call playin tug of war with 5 foot sharks "huntin". Gets kind interesting when a five footer or bigger realizes ya done slipped a rope around his tail in the wade gut. After havin a sore mouth fer 45 minutes, that sudden yank up the sand generally tees them off real good.
I like Texas, all things considered. I am a Sooner by raising. As long as I got my freedom to run between OK and TX I will be happy as a pig in slop. I have visited 40 of the 50 states. Spent 30 days or more in about 25 of those. Still, I like Texas best.
There's my contribution. It was free, so leave off the keyboard and read another one. Lol.
Jerry

Camo, I know Moab, Ut. very well. one of my huntin' buddies lives there. I've hunted out of Monticello or Moab every year since 1992. That one big 3 pt. buck I had on my avatar was from Moab area in 2004. Got drawn for the Book Cliffs unit after 7 points. Moab is beautiful . Gets hot as hell and could as ... . Job wise ? Thats the hard part of moving anywhere unless you have a trade or open a business. My friend there is a heavy equip. operator in mines and road work. He has 3 mules and a horse and he like to pack with them on hunts, camping, etc.

Camo, aside from the high taxes and a$$****s from the southern new england states (the kind that think driving a hummer makes them a sportsman), Maine is a good place to be... we have all 4 seasons... it gets up to high 90's in the summer and we had days where it did not get above zero this winter but there is hunting going on all year and fishing too... there are striped bass runs annually in the rivers, deep sea, bays, lakes with good bass, trout, and even land locked salmon. The streams and smaller rivers offer some great fly fishing too... I have one whitetail mount on my wall.. he was 195 lbs dressed (no organs included) who would have scored well above 150 if not for broken tines.... I have heard of swamp bucks being taked over 300 lbs. We have moose (canadian) for which we have a lottery, black bear you can hunt without a tag during dear season or buy a tag for the earlier baiting and dog seasons... some of the greatest turkey hunting in the country now because ours have not been hunted long or hard enough yet to get educated. We have ducks too or partridge, grouse and woodcock if you prefer. The state is great for sportsmen and there is plenty of open private land to hunt on. A good way to hunt the state would be to have a camp somewhere about in the central portion and explore from there. Like I said, though, the taxes suck and the "flatlanders" abound. I actually tend to go to Pennsylvania (Clearfield area) to relax and get away around the 4th of July because that is when the tourists are at their worst... I have seen and would like a bumper sticker that says: If it is tourist season, why cant we shoot them?

well I got my map it sure is a pertty thing. Funny I thought I'd have more pins in it though. Got a few down around TX. One in AR one in NC one over there in UT a couple in TN . I keep looking at ND and MT and every time I want to put a pin in them but don't looked st CA snd almost cut it off and thru it in the ocean. Too bad AK isn't off the coast of So Cal where they put it on this map might put 4 or 5 pins in there some where. Anyway I'll go over the posts agian later and see if I missed any place I know Main was on the list but I heard a rumor about something called "the mud season" so I havent pinned it just yet. I thought about Idaho but it's looking kinda small right now, you know this town ain't big enough...
any way if anybody has any other thoughts I'd like to hear 'em. I really like the looks of the Osarks I was talking to the weather girl at the station and she said that place is full of rednecks... I did'nt have the heart to tell her and just smiled.
Strange how I didn't put a pin in Clay WV yet I always loved that place when I was little.....Well talk to ya later off to the fridge for another beer.

Where in Ut. ? Moab ? I'll talk to you about Utah if you want. Beautiful state and great hunting. But to live and work ? You better have a biz. dude. I know Moab very well. I'll even give you the # of a good friend there.I guess Wy. is out ...Mt. is good. From the list you narrowed it down to, Myself would pick Mt. . That is me and you is you. You have to live with your choice. At least for awhile...

You know, we are all from somewhere and a lot of us want to be somewhere else...I don't mean to demean anyones' favorite place, BUT...
I remember standing in the school library in our school back in central Penna, checking out a book on the western lands, trappers, indians , mountains....And me, being the incurable romantic even at the young age of 13 decided then and there i was going to the Rocky monutains and live there.
I've been everywhere but Alaska and Hawaii..and can truthfully say that in my opinion God made the Rocky Mountains, looked down at his hands at what was left, shrugged and then just tossed the rest over his shoulder..and let the chips fall where they may...
Guess he figured he couldn't improve on perfection and that if the rest of us couldn't figure out where the most beauty was on our own, why we didn't deserve to live in the shadows of those magnificient creations anyway..
J.K guys, although I admit that for me, this is pretty much what I believe, but that is just me...
Take care:

Leep, Let's just hope that everybody doesn't fall in love with the Rockies, Wy., Mt.,etc. like we and many others have because if they did, it would look like L.A., Ca. or New York City in no time. Too many rich men buying up towns and land from the east now. Ted Turner, Robert Redford to name a couple .
