I usually relied on my 1911 .45 for that job but I just purchased a Mossberg 500 pump with pistol grips. What do you use?

Kinda like my Win 1300 full of Aguila mini-shells in #4 buck w/# 1 buck. The 1300 feeds them just fine.

A Glock 26, a S&W mod 49, and a Hi Standard .22 mag derringer strategically placed.

Hey... Even paranoids have enemies!!!

I have a jack russel for a mobile alarm and a rotweiler as backup outside. If you get past them then there is a colt 38 detective special by the bed a 16 ga double across the room and a remington 1100 by the back door.I also have various rifles available in a gun safe as we live out in the boonies and are more likely to have an animal problem then a human.Last week I shot a coyote at 2am that the dogs alerted me to.

Keep a Bersa 380 with me at all times CCW.

At home it's a Mossberg 500 with defense configuration - heat guard, folding handgrip stock, loaded with 00 buck and alternating rounds with rifled slugs.

Beyond that, there's the SKS with ball ammo and tracers alternated in the clip.

Downstairs,  my Para P-12, and Mrs. Charley's Kel-Tec P-32. Upstairs,  a Winchester 1300 (former SAPD gun)...first 2 rounds are #2s, seems the best balance between adequate penetration and over penetration, followed by ) BK. Charter Bulldog, .44 Special, and  Hungarian PA63 for Mrs. Charley.

BTW, sometimes even paranoids have real enemies.

I keep a wakizashi between the bedfram and the dresser.

I know that sounds insane, but i assure you that in close quarters it can be a devastating tool. There are goblins out there who will laugh at a pistol but who will jusm out a 2 story window at the sight of flashing steel.

The wakizashi is a short version of a sword. It is similar to but shorter than a katana.

Mine has a 18.5" blade and is housed insde a bamboo sheath that is the exact dimensions of the handle, so it looks like a short stick till drawn.

mine looks alot like this one but isnt made by a famous knife maker...

I keep a 10 " Tanto handy, put I put more faith in a pistol than a blade. The reason is simple what did Indiana Jones do when it was faced with a guy who was wheeling a big sword.....Shot him.

I would say that mindset is the most valuable tool in the box.

At room distance you would be amazed how fast things "open up".
