Today I went with a friend who teaches classes for concealed carry permits.  He's had me come along a few times to the local range, but today we went to a ranch in the southern part of the county.  The family that owns the ranch are some of the nicest people I've met, and they're strong believers of the Second Ammendment.

We had the class outside their home under the shade of some trees and luckily there was a cool breeze blowing.  Yesterday was in the 90's there, but today only hit 86.  Al, the instructor went over all the necessary information and then  our hosts served us lunch.  Thick slices of ham, potato salad, etc...   Mmmm good.  Then we headed to the range they have set up.  A few of the cows wandered over to see what was up.

I was helping people who were re-qualifying while Al worked with the folks who were getting their first permit.  Most of the shooters were doing very well I'm happy to say.   In fact, I'd be glad to have any of them on my side any day.

I'd taken my 4" S&W M29 and let whoever wanted to shoot it have a go.  (Most of them had 9's, 38's and other small calibers.)   The lady who owns the ranch was thrilled she hit the target with a gun that kicks so much.  (The only loads I had on hand were some 200gr XTP's over 26gs of W296.  Not bad to shoot for me, but still has some kick to it.)  Her husband put some shots right together, and their 16 year old son did real good with it.)  Another old guy put 3 shots in the same spot.  I think I made some converts for the 44, and hopefully talked some into getting into reloading.

After final goodbyes Al and I headed out, and of course took a wrong turn heading down the hill.  Didn't matter, as we saw a few does and turkeys on our extended route.

When we got to the end of our "wrong road" we turned aroud, headed back to the ranch gate and then made our way out the "right way".   It was a fun day all around and I'm happy to have made some new friends.  Especially shooting friends.

Right now I'm happy as heck to see that there's still people in California who are of sound mind and common sense.  If only we could convert all the others.   I'm also tired as a dog from a long day, so it's off to bed for me.    GR

Good pics and Great story GR..Hey bud,There is a lot of good people in California, they just get overshadowed by the wackos. And truth be told every state has its share of whackos. You won`t catch me in Austin Texas once in a Blue Moon. Two guys holding hands and people with ear rings hangin out of their lips and noses is not my idea of company I wanna keep and that town is full of fairies and fruitcakes...:sofa:

Timber, you got that right.  Just 5 miles down the road is the biggest fruitcake haven a wacko could want.  Arcata.   I'm just wish we weren't outnumbered by all the fruits and nuts.  Seems like most of them are in the state senate and assembly too.  Oh well, at least we have 'em outgunned.
