Great idea. My son is 15 and recently shot something like this for the Boy Scouts. We would love to do this.

Well I have a old Winchester 52 that I bet will out shoot your ruger 10-22, but if we set up 10-22 against 10-22 , lets have different classes. modified and un modified. auto vs bolt and ss falling block. 1930's vs 1930's. paul walls book of values would be a good resource to set up time fraims of when what was made. what you think?? dave

nyto..
sorry, for this round we`re trying to keep it simple, too many rules makes it a headache for all involved.
If this first shoot works,we`ll break it down further into rifle classes..
but for now,
its simply, grab your most accurate 22 or 17 rimfire, print the target in the link I gave, measure fifty yards and print 4 groups, send it and see who takes the title of best 22 rim shot and best 17 rin shot...

Shot a target today.  OOgly.

This will go in the mail in the next couple days with the target.  I’m sparing myself the embarrassment of scanning and posting the target.  Not good, see comments below.

Handloader’s Bench Postal Match Target 1 Data.

Date shot, 08/17/09
Range:  Hallstead-Great Bend Rod and Gun Club at 50 yards
(Range is oriented toward NNE)
Wind, calm
Bright sun on target, rifle in shade at the shooting bench (shot between 1430 and 1630)
Temp 85
Humidity 46%  (According to weather.com) but it felt higher and the grass was still wet from overnight even tho’ in the sun all day.

Rifle – Kimber M82 Gov’t  (CMP)
Sights – As issued, aperture and globe
Position – Benched, fore end on sand bag, rear in hand, braced on bench
Ammo – CCI LRN standard velocity 40 grain, velocity unknown

Comments:
Sights set up on black 4-5/8 inch bull at 50 yards, about right for that set of sights, and close enough for the purpose.  Barely able to see the official one inch bulls, contrast low, eyes old.  Might mount a Gamo scope (it is all I have) and try again.  Sweat running on inside of glasses is no help.

Don't know why the picture doesn't show sometimes, but does others.

Here's the same target from a different server.

Thanks, ND.

That's a CZ 452 Varmint in .17M2 withe a Bushnell Legend 5-15x40 scope using Hornady 17gr V-Max.  50yds from sandbags.

The 452 stock leaves a little to be desired.  I've had to hollow it out some to keep the barrel from touching one of the sides.  Once I did that it shoots pretty good.  Different ammo (Hornady, CCI and Federal) shoots to different POI though.  Which is why they aren't close to to the POA.    I've had fun with the little .17M2.

Sorry, I meant to say "RockyDog", not "ND".

It was some overcast - some bright sun.  Minimal breeze. About 88F.  Shot around noon.   About ideal for .17 rimfire.
