Goldberg may have an ax to grind about CBS, but you sure don't see this stuff on the evening "news".

I saw him on Fox last night. I sure hadn't heard that GW ever volunteered to go to Veitnam anywhere.
The fact that Dan Rather knew this makes me want to smack him up beside the head.

Folks don't realise, GW flew the Convair F-102 Delta Dagger, an interceptor designed as an integral part of a complete weapon system to defend the CONUS, requiring special ground control to guide it to intercept Russian bombers. I was an instrument systems tech on the later F-106 Delta Dart, in the late 70's during my first hitch (USAF at Tyndall AFB, Fl). Same mission, similar weapon system. We did not send any F-106's to bomb Libya or Iran either..........
It was NOT in any way an air superiority fighter and has no ground attack capabilities. One squadron was sent to Vietnam for a short time, but did very little - it was NOT designed for that environment and mission!
Pilots have to be trained and qualified on each type of aircraft they fly. So, his NOT being sent to Vietnam is perfectly proper. As was his 'early out' from military service. Early outs are very common, especially when in peacetime, and no war commitments are looming. I got a six-month early out from the USN myself in my second hitch, as have many other veterans before and since.
Dubya wasn't perfect, he did some things I didn't like - but there is no sense bashing him for something that is NOT in any way uncommon or bad, or for something that was perfectly normal.
