:confused2:

I have some very tarnished 45 brass that I would like to reload.  I tried to polish it, but after 8 hours in a tumbler with corn medium and polish nothing much happened.  Any suggestions on how I can get bright brass out of old?

I have had some brass that was left outside and was hard to polish,I tried Iosso brass case cleaner and it work good.

I also give some brass a Bath in Mertaic Acid for only 5 minutes and it will clean it nicely.

if you use this remember to wear rubber gloves and wash the brass off with water before handling.

Midway and Dillon, and probably other sell a polish to be added to tumbler media. They work well, and will clean nasty brass pretty fast. You can also buy Turtle Wax Clear Coat Polish and Restorer from your local auto supply, it can be added to your media as well. I've used all three and can tell only minor differences between them.

I was using corn medium and Dillion's polish. Works well on slightly tarnished brass but nothing on heavy tarnish.

I picked up some walnut medium from the pet store and will try to find ruby rough and see how that works.

Thanks to everyone for helping me out.

I bought some Lyman called Tuff Nut its walnut media with the ruby rough in it and it works fantastic!!! On the down side you better use some type of gloves when handeling the brass after being run in the media as it will stain your hands red and does not wash off!!! Jimmy

I'm new at this case polishing and i just bought a frankfort polisher and the corn is a rough polish and the walnut is a finish polish.  I pop out the primers first then rough polish with the corn.  Then i resize the cases and check the length then i use walnut with some brass polish(frankfort) and final polish them then i reload them.  Your brass maybe beyond the method i use.

I found the walnut medium at my pet store, but I can't find ruby rough polish.  When I do a search online I get rough rubies, as in gems as a response.  Can anyone help me find the polish?

Thanks in advance.

TG and your right, the stuff works good for removing stains and tarnish on brass and other solf type metals.

The local jewelry story has it and it is CHEAP like 8.00 for a 4oz stick and it has lasted me over 9 years and I must have atleast 5/8 of it still

Rock shops , [lapidary supplies] have a number of pre polishes and polishes, they are used in tumble polishing rocks.

Walmart may have some of the polish refills, as they sell the hobby tumblers.

RedDot,

If you can latch onto some walnut media (as suggested) that's a necessity.

Run down to your local WallyWorld, or AutoZone and grab a can of "Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound" in the red can. (The green container is the polishing compound and finer)

Toss about 3 rounded tablespoons of it into your fresh walnut media and let her run for about 20-30 mins with the lid off to allow the carrier to evaporate somewhat.

Dump in your brass and let it run for two hours, then check it. If it's real bad, another hour or so should do it.

I've been peddling brass for the last year or so, and most of it comes off my old firing range at the Sheriff's Dept. A good portion of it is tarnished pretty bad, but other than that, it's in good shape.
A final, or followup polish with corncob media laced with a light polish gives it a nice finishing touch.

Try it.............

Bob

You can also use toothpaste. It is actually very good for polishing.

Sportsman Warehouse carries the walnut media with ruby rouge in it.  About $15 for a big jug

I use 2000 grit wet dry sand paper. Works like a charm, and with little elbow grease.
