Hi, I am new to this site and fairly new to reloading. The first round I ever loaded and fired was a .50 BMG with a CCI primer, 237 grains of 4831 behind a 600 grain APIT. This was a bad idea. It went through a 55 galon drum of tar, then through 16 inches of an oak tree, then only god knows where. I have learned from my mistakes and found several good loads now with H50. The 4831 works with lighter bullets around 500 grains. Can anyone point me toward reasonably priced 50 bullets, something non military. The cheapest I have found are Hornady A-max bullets and they are over a buck a peice. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use AAC#8700 and VV#20N29 and pretty much 750grAMAX's.

Hey Scott, What kind do you have. Me and my brother-n-law went and did some shooting yesterday. I shot some of my loads with 647 grain barnes bullets in front of 248 grains of H50. They will get your attention.

Armalite AR-50(early model without the allenheads sticking out of the muzzle brake)
Think they have the most effective muzzle brake on the market(wife shoots mine), little too heavy(with the BSA 10-50x60mm 30mm-tube) and 4 Burris Tactical rings(don't want anything moving), she weighs right at 34.75lbs!
To date I've put right at 645 rounds down the tube. Have tried 20N29 and 750AMAX's, but the best load(for now) is 238.5grs of AA#8700/CCI35/750AMAX just off the lands(.003" off). Will do 7.75" 10-shot 1,000yards group(conditions were perfect that day!) Don't shoot it too much at 200yards...just not challenging enough!
But you notice the trend above? 750 AMAX bullets-the BC is 1.067 Nothing can compare to that(almost, well at least in that price catagory).

Well my parents have a farm and there are some areas for longer shots, but I dont feel safe shooting the .50 in that direction. I only have about 3 places on our land that I feel like it is a safe area to shoot it. The longest one out of those three is about 500 yards.

How far are you from Gulf Shores? Heard there is a range down there that is .50BMG friendly and has a 1K line to shoot them from....

Its about a 4 hour drive. I have a cousin that lives there. I could get him to do some recon for me. If I would look around I could probably find somewhere close to home. I am used to being able to step out the front or back door and just shooting. I dont have a range nearby but I really dont need one.
