Hi,
I started a 30 years ago with a Rock chucker which I still have and is in perfect condition.
Nowadays there are four more presses on my two reloading benches;a Bonanza CO-AX, a Redding Turret, a RCBS PRO2000 and a Dillon XL 650.
The slogan" reloading saves money" does not work for me
Kind regards,
Paul Tummers.

I started out with a RCBS 2. Still have it and use no other press. For me, why change from what works. Dave

Lee loader here.
I literally went into a gun store, got all the components for just a bit more than $50 and the stuff paid for itself the first day!!!!!!!
1st days shooting .41`mag, $30 a box x 4 boxes, $120
2nd day reloading.
3rd day, shooting .41 mag $8 a box x 4 boxes, $32
120-32=$88
- Lee loader. $15
- pound of 2400, $15
- 2 boxes of CCI 350s $3
- 2 boxes hornady 210 grain XTPs $24
Grand total $57
I think I liberated a milk crate, a plastic hammer, and some tupperware from the house, and ran into the shed. That little lee loader literally paid for itself the first day, and that ammo I made on the first day with a hammer and block of wood, sitting indian style on a cement floor was as good as any I have ever shot, to this day.
- Cost savings on first day $88
- component and equipment cost $57
That's right, I saved $31 on my first day reloading!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hooked forever.

| RCBS Jr that I donated to a good friends younger brother so he could load. I bought a Rockchucker to replace that, then a large frame Midway so I could load for my .45-110 Sharps Straight. Rockchucker didn't have enough clearance for the big cases. I stiil use both.

| I started handloading in 1955 with a C-H Die Co. press. It is a single-stage "H"-style press of great strength. It cost $50 then and came with a set of dies of your choice. (I just looked it up the price in the 1956 GUN DIGEST— page 273.) I still use it. It sits on my bench next to the Rockchucker and the Dillon. Last edited on 22 September 2007 07:59 PM by Dirtkicker

I started on a Lyman Comet single stage press in the early 60s. My first cartridges were the 9 mm Luger, and the .257 Roberts RCBS 28 degree shoulder. The sporting goods dealer that I bought the rifle from knew less about handloading than I did. When I asked him about loads, he sold me a pamphlet called "Supplement to Ackley's Handbook" What he didn't tell me was the 28 degree case didn't like Ackley's 40 degree loads. After the primers fell out when reloading a twice fired case, I did some research with RCBS, and got the proper loads. That taught me a valuable lesson: when doing something you know very little about, buy books, and get good advice. That was a great rifle, though- a custom VZ24 Mauser.

| I bought a Dillon RL450 then upgraded it to an RL550B. Started with a MEC 600 with 20g & 12g dies sold the 20g Rem 870 Wingmaster with trap & skeet barrels, then bought a MEC 650 which I sold after buying the Pacific DL366 12g progressive reloader(now Hornaday).I bought another used MEC 650 that I gave to a friend & then was given a MEC Mark 5 that I gave to another friend. Started reloading on a Lachmiller single-stage press of my Dad's back in the 60's. We ran the wheels off that thing, but it still works just fine - loaded up several hundred rounds of .45 ACP when I was visiting my folks in July.
My current press is an ancient Pacific. I inherited it from a dear friend, WWI Army Vet and all-around great guy when he passed on 15 years ago. Had to make an adapter so I could use the more modern, smaller-diameter RCBS/Redding shell holders. Speedy Gonzales it ain't - but it'll still be able to crank out rounds long after I'm gone. I've thought about getting a multistage press, but ... what can I say, I'm kinda old fashioned ;)
Besides, this old Pacific press has character ;) And it reminds me of my friend, and the great times we had for so many years.

I learned to load with a Lee challenger anniversary kit. Now I am using a Lee turret press and it is working great so far. Haven't saved any money though

The first reloading I ever did was on a friend's Lyman Spartan. The first press I owned was a Herters. I've got four presses set up right now and the last one I bought was a Redding turret press. T-7? I think it is.
can't believe noone went the Herter's route! Got a Model U3 in 1972, because that's the one my buddy taught me to load with. A "Ballistics Laboratory Model 15 scale", lol, and dies, all needed accessories to load for for $52, as I remember. Herter's catalogs were a hoot to read.
I've still got an old Herter's catalog, and it is funny aint it? Everything ol Jacque sold was the "biggest, baddest, most powerful" whatever it was "on the face of the planet" I also have a partial box of Herter's wasp waist bullets. Ever seen one?

Almost Ditto.
I still have my old C & H press and it still works. I don't use it however , I use a RCBS Rock Chucker now.
