When you get big muzzle flash it is an indicator that the powder you are using is too slow for the bullet weight you are using.

Go one or two steps slower with your powder and your groups will probably improve and your muzzle flash will be lessened.

When I used to reload 25-06 I used H4895 or IMR4064. H4831 is slow burning and is the cause of your muzzle flash.

What is the length of the barrel?

To really appreciate muzzle flash, shot a 221 Fireball, the name says it all. That is the norm for this caliber, for your rifle I think you need to change powders.

4831 is a fine powder for 25-06 just not with that bullet

tyr rl-19 it is just a bit different in rate. enough to be in the 50 gr range

you could also try a bit hotter primer like fed 210. your just not be generating enough pressure to get a good burn with the 4831.

hi my rifle has only got a 20" barrell it's a mannlicher pro hunter mountain.

i have some 115grn nosler ballistic tip to to try out will h4831sc work better with this bullet rether than the 85s. the 85gns noslers are getting into a 1" groups at 150yds. with the powder.

http://www.hodgdon.com/  with that short of a barrel the faster powders will be needed to reduce the flash. you can also figure about 200 fps less velocity than data shown with 24 " barrels.hodgdon has a burn rate chart to help decide which powder.even with a heavier bullet you may get a lot of flash with h4831sc.but if it shoots good, what the heck.you are not hunting at night are you?

hi yes do go out mostly at night but have a sound moderator that hides most of the muzzle flash. i am more thahappy with the grouping with this load so will just let it be going the get a lend of a chrony to check the velocity of  them from the brother in law that builds bows for a living. thanks for all the help. for one thing they are good at killing foxe's stone dead.
