I am new here on THB and pretty new to reloading. It has been years since I have reloaded. I am thinking of using the 150 gr swift sirocco out of a 7mm Reg mag. I cant find too much info from people that have reloaded them. I do hear they do take some dialing in.
Does any body have a good place for me to start(keep in mind I am new) I hear you might need to seat the bullet futher...I dont know how far that is. I do have calipers, so I can measure if sombody can give me a reference. Powder brands and weights, primer and whatever else would sure be appericated!!!
Thanks

i have no experience w/ the sciroccos - i've had pure success out of hornady 162 and sierra 150 and 160 to want to try yet another bullet.
for your question... grab 2-3 different powders to test. i suggest h-4831, rl-22, and a 3rd - maybe rl-25, or ramshot magnum, h-50bmg, etc (a slow burning powder).
now, grab a sized, unprimed case and seat a bullet to the maximum length that will fit in your magazine. run the dummy into the gun and check the bullet for rifling marks. if there is, then that is good. get rid of the marks with some steel wool, seat the bullet a little shorter, and check again. you will eventually get to a point where there are no marks. this is your maximum length, and where i start my load development (only one direction to go from there). label this dummy w/ a sharpie and store it in your die box. it will make die set-up next time extremely fast.
if the bullet had no marks when you seated it to magazine length, then you are at the max length already. any longer, and your ammo won't fit in the mag, and is a frustration to hunt with. again, mark your case and store it.
in the 7 rem mag, i use a magnum primer for all powders. brand isn't that important, but cci mag primers seem to be pretty easy to get, reliable, and inexpensive.
run a ladder test for each powder, and you will know very quickly what powder your rifle likes the best. from there, it is just a matter of dialing in the specific load. since you are already at max length, maybe seating a little shorter will change things in a positive manner, maybe adjusting the powder charge a half grain or so, etc.
