First caliber I reloaded, was .30-30 for a lever action Winchester model 94AE Ranger, about 15 years ago. First handgun caliber was .40 S&W for a Glock 22 shortly after.

A .30-06 in 1965. That was back before the democrats started their big anti-gun push in Washington. I mail-ordered a U-9 barreled action and semi-inleted walnut stock from Herter's. Got it put together and have been reloading for it ever since.

.38 Special for a S&W Model 10 followed by 8mm for a surplus M98 - both on a Lyman Spartan c-press. Still have both firearms.

Technically - .22LR rimfire! I wanted a quiet and short-range 'mouse load' for inside the barn, and put a .22 pellet atop a reduced powder charge. Results were poor to fair. Then I discovered Colibri primer-only loads - problem solved!
First 'real' reloading - .38 Special, .357 Magnum - both for my Ruger Security Six, and .45ACP for my Colt semiauto pistol. Been loading them for about five years now.
Just begun doing rifle, starting with .22 Hornet and .30-30 Win.
Reloading is fun and habit-forming!

...
Why didn't use .22 Short cartridges or .22 Lang Z from Winchester?

Riccochets. A .22 Short zinging off a concrete floor - not good! The soft pellet would just splatter harmlessly. I was 16 years old back in the 70's, and after pesky mice - not 'big game'.

I finally settled then on a pellet pistol.

my first reloads were for my tikka t3 .243 IMR 4064 with winchester primers and sierra 85 gr. HPBT. Got all the equipment, Powder, press, primers etc., except for .243 dies from my grandpa. He never reloaded any of his own for some reason.

My first cartridge to reload was .44 mag.
I didn't mind too much back in the 1980s paying $6 - $8/box of handgun ammo. But the .44 mag and Special cost about $18 - $24/box. So I got a Lee Challenger press ($20 back then) and Hornady .44 mag/spec dies.
Then since I had a press, RCBS scale, powder measure, hand primer and everything else I might as well get dies, bullets and powder for .357, .38, 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45ACP. Next, it was very expensive to shoot 7.7 Jap so I got set up for that rifle cartridge. Might as well get dies for .223, .308, .30-30, and .30-06.
Twenty years later I've added 6.5x55 and a Classic Turret Press. Trying to consolidate cartridges, bullets, and powder, but tempted to add 8x57 Mauser and look into getting a 6.8 SPC upper for my AR15.
