I was exited, eager, and ready to load something. The first round I loaded was a .50 BMG. I had mixed results.....:stirpot: All in all it worked out ok and I have been hooked since then. What was your first?

I was about 16 years old and just bought my first rifle.A Parker Hale chambered in .243 Winchester. With the help of my Grandfather I loaded my first loads.I'm very close to 56 years old now and have been reloading ever since. Its been one of my favorite pastimes all these years.I have been hunting since I was 14 and never used a factory load .

A Mossberg 308 win was my first rifle and my first reloads.Started with a lee handloader but soon realized a press was the only way to go...

Geeze Lee Loader.Forgot about that experience. My Brothers and I loaded shotshells with the primitve system way before the 243 experience.I did learn that cases don't last forever at about 13 years of age when the rim bursted and the old 20 ga. double could not hold the escaping buring powder. My friends lead me about 2 miles to the creek where I could rinse the burnt powder from my sore eyes.I could actually see after that. Was scared to death I was blind.First big lesson learned.Don;t be cheap about what you are doing when reloading.

38 special & 357 with a lee hand loader, forgot about it until I saw this post, cast my own bullets with a Lee mold, melted lead over the old forge. Saved my money and bought a Lee electric furnace, boy I was up town then. Still got the old Lee loader around here somewhere. Shot those loads in an old Colt Trooper mk 3. Been loading since 1964-65, and like 264, haven't hunted with anything else. I firmly believe I can produce better stuff than can commonly be bought, and I enjoy it.

I started handloading about 10 years ago.
The first cartridge for me was 300 Win Mag...
Right outta the chute with IMR 4831 AND A 168 Sierra BTHP
she was shootin deadly serious groups.I started loading hunting ammunition with
Hornady 165 grain SP`s and she remained deadly serious.
Years later,now,I load for 27 different chamberings(btw I have a lot of guns)
I will not shoot factory ammo...only a dire emergency would force me too.:stupid:
I start with virgin brass and make everything as uniform as possible..
I do believe there are very few cartridge companies that could whip my loads in accuracy in my rifles.BlackHills is good stuff, but I still prefer to load my own proven loads.

I started in the seventies with 9 mm para, when I sold my SIG 210 due to lack of time to go to the shooting range, I already did load for my hunting rifles which I still do.

22-250  Learned how to do it right on on Handloaders bench.   Now I went crazy enough to order a custom barrel for the rifle and started load ammo to my specs.

22-250 80gr Sierra HPBT on top of Accurate 4350 33.3gr.

It looks a whole lot more impressive in person.  And shoots very very flat.

My first handloads were for a .41 mag Ruger that I bought used and a set of RCBS dies came with it. Bought a RCBS loading set with 30-06 dies.  Still have the dies but (wish I did) do not have the Blackhawk.  Within a short time I was laoding 30-06, 38 spc, .357 mag.

45 acp: I had NO instructions or help. I remember throwing all the brass in the kitchen sink and washing them with every chemical in the house.

(Good thing brass was cheap back then!)

7 X 30 Waters. I bought a Contender pistol in 7 X 30 and the ammo was fairly pricey. I had a buddy with a bunch of 30- 30 brass from his Contender. Borrowed a press, bought some dies and away I went.  Followed with 7.62 X 54 Rusky, 270, 243, 8mm mauser, 45 long colt, .223, 30-06. RD

I started by helping my Dad load for his .244. First one I loaded on my own was for a .222 rem. I wish I still owned.

My first was 7.62x25 in pistol and 22-250 in rifle.

I had a hard time finding an 85gr bullet so I used 110gr speers. Had a time
with the bullet backsetting and moved on. Next in pistol was 9x18, I cut down 9x19 brass to make them. That worked great and was cheap to boot.
