I use a lot of bullseye for 380 and 9mm.  With just a dozen rounds fired I notice a lot of soot building up.  Reading on Bullseye and seeing that it has been around since like 1913.  I figured a newer designed powder would be cleaner burning.  I was looking for newer powders to try.  Unique, an older powder, claims it has been reformulated to be cleaner burning, which is where I was heading when I came across data listing Winchester AutoComp on the Hodgdon Reloading Data site.  It looks pretty promising.  I have some on order, which I probably won't see until June.  My local Sportsmen Warehouse said since he hadn't heard of it yet don't expect it to be available until this fall.

Greatings from Germany. I'm TDY and loving the Beer :beer:but missing my guns, I mean my wife:upskirt:, no my guns.:whiteflag:

I haven't been on line for awhile. I didn't realize I was on  the new reload's forum.  But in comparison to some members I am very new at the art conjuring projectiles to go where I wish:lol:.   This might be to much info. I hope I don't confuse anybody!

I'm a big fan of the Accurate Arms powder.  You might want to give them a look?  Used AA#5 in my 9mm for some Limited Gun fun in IPSC/USPSA.  Stages of fire normally consisted of 30rounds, with 7-9 stages per shoot....never needed to clean the firearm(normally did at lunch anyway, just because).

Been hearing good things from my friend about HS6 in his 9mm, but I can't say it's better....he always places just behind me in the totals of the match:wink:

I think Bullseye is a great powder!!! It does what it is supposed to. My point is that it has been around for almost 100 years.  Do you think that something better might be out there?  This  HS6 that could be a great powder. But I am still looking at this new Winchester Pistol Powder. And it doesn't look like it takes care of 380ACP. If I were looking it just 9mm that powder looks really great! Thanks. I try to buy powders that will take care of more than one caliber. And I believe I have never been a Scott B.

I have tried a lot,but settled on Universal Clays by Hodgon. I can run 3-400 rounds through my 1911 or Smith 686,and have not malfunctins from soot build up.

It has about the sme burn rate as W231 and Unique. Not exactly,so just don't subsitute  one for the other with high pressure, near max loads.

BTW TipTop,I'm just over the hill from you in Black Forest

i have to agree with saddlesore i love the clays line from hodgdon ,all were meant to be clean burning with less recoil yet i mostly use alot of blue dot ,scott's experince sounds promising however and i admit that i like the accurate powder i have used so far

Thanks guys!!  Universal is what I thought I had a bunch of.  It turned out to be Clays. Great for target shotgun, not so great for pistol. Saddlesore yeah I do believe you are just a stones through away.  Especially since I'm in tree line on the high side.  Can you shoot are your property?  I can shoot on mine.

After the many eyars that I have reloaded, I still use Bullseye and Unique for many loads, but have also stuck with WW231 for many of my 1911 loads.

I do try the new powders and the reformulated powders. After shooting a few hundred rounds with the newer powders, I judge how well they do on the range and how well they work with my Dillon presses.

For some loads, I change what powders I use and others I stay with what I have found success with. One or two powders, I had to change because they aren't available anymore.

Trying different powders is the best way to judge what works for you. Plus with the way supplies are going these days, if you know what you can substitute can be a big advantage.

Jerry

Tiptop. I use Clays (not Universal Clays) all the time in my .38/.357. Burns very cleanly even with loads as light as 3 grains under a 138 gr. SWC. RD
