Hello,

I'm a little new to handloading and I'm trying to get the correct OAL for my rifle.  I measured the rifles throat and it looks like it measures at 2.906 OAL.  Is this excessive for a remington 700?  Is it safe to set the bullet at this length.

Thanks for your help.

Is this a new or a used rifle?

Mine has 6000 + rounds through and it will still shoot 1/4", 5rd group IF I'm on my game.  The throat on mine  has grown to 2.958" OAL.  I load to 2.800".

Even with a 175gr SMK I am at 2.8". I would not exceed this max COAL.

That would be the minimum OAL not the maximum.

A lot of rifles are more accurate loading out to the lands in some cases, and varying degrees off the lands.
