Is this a pressure problem? The first case, going form the left to the right is a factory round, the next was 5.7 grains of Power Pistol the next two was 6.0 grains of Power Pistol. Primer was CCI small pistol. In the picture it looks as if the dimple protrudes out pass the bass but is does not. The projectile was a Hornady 115 XTP JHP seated at 1.040. The pistol was a new 9MM Beretta FS Inox

umm my hornady book list that particular bullet to be at least 1.075 minimum o.a.l. ....my hornady book list 4.8 grains to start with 6.7 as max (in their test weapon -s&w 39) any small changes in depth or powder can raise pressure -especially depth in a cartridge such as a 9 mm, i'd try setting out to 1.075 first with the lower charge and pop a couple off to compare them with ,a chrono would really help here btw as would case mic-ing before and after ,plz keep in mind that while it is ok to usually be longer than minimum over all legth the same doesnt hold true to shorter than
the dimple as u call it i couldnt tell whether or not it protruded but what is apparent is that it is flowing into a possibly oversized firing pin hole

Fryboy, thanks for the reply. I did not want to make the post so long you would get lost reading it. Ok, first I did start the load with a lot lower charge weight. I went by the new Lyman book that used the Hornady XTP JHP for there test, so I am using the same bullet.  They start at 5.9 but I started lower,  with the same results. I also tried with 1.090 lenght, same results. Notice the first round on the left, it is factory. I do have a chrono but did not test it as of now.

appearances can often be deceiving ...i have also found many factory rounds that i didnt care to duplicate the pressure of ( from mild to wild -even complete with blown primers ) the last shell does look a little flattened ( but again that appearance thing rears it's head ) the one thing undeniable is that the firing pin hole is on the large side .the last two indeed look just a wee bit less straight on the sides than the first couple three but only a mic would tell the truth there IMO more important would be the case head and web than the rest of the sides .also im my opinion none look or seem to look very flat ,i've seen some odd primer marks in my life ( the oddest was a square hole lolz yes with a round firing pin mark in the center ) ur's doent seem to be that flat , the chrono would help here as it would let u figure out velocity and pressure etc
