While reloading 45ACP 230gr TMJ bullets, I noticed my Redding die started to put a "ring" onto the bullet where the bullet meets the seat plug.  Does anyone know why this would happen and how to correct it?  I tried re-setting the die but it still makes a "ring" on the bullet.  I took the die apart and felt the end of it and it did not appear to be sharp or have any jagged edges.

Also, I have found it very difficult to detect any taper crimp on my 45ACP reloads.  I  know the crimp is slight, but should you be able to see it or measure it?

Yeah. It's harmless but caused by the sharp corner at the edge of the seater plug. I wouldn't worry about it.

You can easily smooth and radius that edge by chucking the plug's stem in a drill and spinning it while holding a bit of medium grit sandpaper in the bullet cavity.  It won't take much.

Thanks.  I had thought I would try a dremel tool to round the edges a bit.  Sandpaper would work too....

The particular bullet you are using doesn't exactly matchup to the profile of the seater plug, its just cosmetic. As for the taper you should be able to measure it with dial calipers and also be able to detect it by sight as it will make a shining ring around the rim of the case as the taper is applied.
