I too, am a big fan of the Dillon press. I run two 550's. With that being said, I still use my RCBS Rockchucker & a old Lyman American for many reloading chores. I'm positive that learning to reload on a single stage before moving on to a progressive press is a good idea, & the money is not wasted because you will use the single stage press throughout your reloading carear. And may it be a long one!

As far as all the advice to start with a single stage goes, with the manuals, you don't need to be a rocket scientist or a brain surgeon to learn to use a progressive press.
People give that advice because that is what THEY did.
Not rocket scientist or brain surgeon...theygive advice because THEY did it that way...
Not as smart as you, eh?

I agree with GrayWolf on one thing. Redding dies are the best way to go. Single stage presses are the best way to learn. You get to know every stage of reloading. Progressive loaders are good once you know what is happening or supposed to happen at every stage. A Redding Boss or RCBS Rockchucker press will last you a lifetime. I am sure Lee presses are good but have not been impressed with their products except for a powder throw, doing pretty good.
