First got to this site and click on the Preditors tab and enter your state then inter your Zip code and see if you have any close by your home, kids Schools,or church.
with in 1 mile of my home I have 7 and most are listed as low risk.

| Trouble is, the catagory "Sex Offender" has a terrifyingly broad definition. An 18 year old who moons somebody and gets caught WILL be labeled a sex offender, as will someone caught taking a leak in a public place. the Title Sex Offender is only for the one that have committed a crime against one and mooning is a MISDEMEANOR, and you will not get listed on the Data Base for that .
a sex Crime is any thing that is under Penal code 21 or 22 of the Texas penal code and they are very self explanatory in the Definitions
the data base is a very helpful tool if used to see if you have any Predators in your neighborhood

We got a notice in the mail awhile back that a sex offender had moved into our neighborhood (west of Georgetown, TX, Williamson Co). Anyway, wife and I looked it up online and the description of the event was very vague. Basically said he exposed himself to a minor two years ago. Minor was 15 years old. The guy was now 20. So it sounds like when he was 18 he showed his goods off to a 15 year old.
That could mean anything. That could be a guy that ran naked through a pool party for all we know. God knows when I was a teenager me and my friends certainly did do off the wall stuff and none of us were pervs. You just never know sometimes.
As a parent, I will always rule on the side of caution though to be certain. Don't get me wrong, I want to see the child molesters and rapists swing from an oak, but sometimes you have to wonder about over-zealous prosecuters and backwards judges, like we have here in Williamson Co.

That's helpful Doc.
Don't have any kids but it's still good to know what's going on in the neighborhood.
As far as what is "sex offender" I believe the definitions to be pretty clear as per each state's code. However, the # times convicted, and type of crime really spell it out as to how leery to be of these folks.

There is one that lives about 3 miles as the crow flies up the road in an exclusive,Golf Course community called Mill Creek..Some sick bastard that is 21 years old and molested a 7 year old boy.The incident happened in Austin 5 or 6 years ago it says.I imagine his family moved here to hide him and their shame...Rich assed queer pedophile..****ing sick bastard was under 18 when he did it but he still needs his ****ing head kicked in...

C'mon up! I checked & I live in a target-rich enviroment! 145 in my zip code, say 30 or so hits within a mile. However, I will say that I think that many labeled are, as Walking Horse said, basically people stuck in beauracratic B.S.
