A guy on another forum mentioned using 410 shotgun primers for black powder shooting and it would leave no crud ring around the fireing pin... I always thought ''all'' shotgun primers were 209. Could any of you help me out here. Thanks.

they are the same for all shotshell. but there are diffrent primers for diffrent loads. i have some shotshell that take a 616 primer. they are cheap , 15 bucks for a 1000. then when you add hazmat it puts them higher than the 209's check the load data. you can get those free powder books at places that sells powder.

What he was talking about was the primer Remington made for the .410 shotgun shell. It was 209 size, but strictly for the .410. It's no longer in production. Remington now makes a 209 size primer for muzzleloaders.

I just purchased 200 of the Remington 209 and it has stamped on the pack for Muzzleloader to reduce the crud ring. Will find out soon if this is true compared to the CCI 209 primers i have been using.
