MEC has been around for a long time. Oughta do ya. Never have heard of anyone running buckshot through one though. For that I use to use a little LEE Load-All. Course that's been 20+ years ago, don't know how they're making those LEE's these days. But you can't go wrong with the MEC.

I have two Mec 700 and three sets of dies, 12 ga , 20 ga and 28 ga. I have used these since the 70's and they work better than any shotshell loader i have tried. I don't load shotshells has much now,  as i did a few years back because i can buy shell almost as cheap as i can load them these days.

I have 3 MEC presses. A 650, a "Grabber", and a "Case Conditioner", that resizes and deprimes only. All work well. My wife and I go thru about 6,000 trap loads a year off these presses, and have never had a problem. The 650 is over 30 years old. Keep them clean and lubed, and they'll run forever.  billt

If you do not intend to take up the obsession of trap or skeet, a Lee Load All II is about $40, I have the older Load All and a Lee Loader[Lee Engineering, not Lee Precision] I have had since the '60's, both will do several boxes at a session, the Load All much faster and easier.

Really hard to do much  better than Walmart specials unless you are hunting water fowl and want to save a bunch on leadfree loads.

If you're going to load buckshot, you need a single stage press. I use a MEC 600jr for it, I'm pretty sure the LEE Load-All would do just as well. The buckshot won't drop from a bottle, it has to be hand stacked in the shell.

One thing to remember when loading shotshells is don't change component from what is listed in the reloading manual. Shotshell work on low pressure and changing anything from the listed data can change these pressure . Use what is listed item by item.

Just a suggestion - when you get a chance, pick up the Hodgdon and Alliant (both free) books wherever you buy your powder. A lot of shotgun loading information in both of them.

Hodgdon's HS-6 is identical to the discontinued Winchester 540. HS-7 is Winchester's discontinued 571.
