I have been eyeing the Stoeger over/under 12ga for a little over $200 on constantly on sale at Dicks Sporting Goods.  Are they any good?  I don't have an over/under yet and i would like to get an affordable one.

I have been eyeing the Russian Izhmash Saiga semi-auto 12ga too.  It also was copied from the reliable/dependable ak47 design.

I dont own one but I know that Stoeger has been making side by side coach guns for a long time and they seem to function great. I think the finish on the wood and stuff might not be the greatest but how can you go to wrong with a over and under for that cheap

I see this gun always on sale and it looks decent.  I figured i would ask you guys.  I want to get into skeet shooting just for fun with my kids soon so an extra shotgun would be good to have.  I seen the saiga-12ga today and it was $429.  Since the stoeger is only around $229 I may get that for fathers day.  I never had an over/under yet.  I have an old 70's western auto double barrel 12ga with 30" barrels that i had to order out of the catalog to get it.  Its still brand new looking and hardley ever used.  I think its made by savage. I also have a mossberg maverick 500 pump too still brand new.  Years ago i was thinking about the kids shooting and hunting as soon as they were born I started buying guns for them when they get older.  I just never told them yet, well exactly that there for them anyway.  I think now that there older blasting some skeets will get them more interested in guns too.  I have one son who likes guns while the other kind of does his own thing but i think a day of skeet shooting will bring everyone together on the same page and put a different light on things.

For many years my uncles made the trip to Vt every year to go hunting with "hunterfishers" dad and him.  Hunterfisher posts here and i never knew how my uncles with all there buddies went to VT hunting in the first place.  We started talking about VT and i found out he hunted with my uncles many years ago.  Its been a family trek to VT every year for my uncles.  Now my cousin first took me to VT in 73 blackbear hunting and i had a blast just being 10' from one in the 6' high grass.  We chased that bear for 4 days or i should rather say it just played with us.  I fell in love with the country and the wilds of VT being a city dweller and living in popluated areas for most of my life in Ct.  Around the mid 80's i purchased land in Vt that borders on the national forest, the misses pushed me so we would have a place to hunt so the family trek and bonding could continue even though all the elders in my family have passed on now.  Its been a time when me and my older brother would drop what ever we were doing and hear the call of the wilds each year twice and go hunting.  We would meet for deer and bear hunting each year till my brother passed away 10 years ago.  Now i'm trying to keep this family bonding in the fall for hunting season going for my kids too. Its not all about getting something its all about getting together and having fun bonding too.  My oldest son understands what i'm trying to do but my youngest son needs to get on board with us too.  I feel it keeps the male part of the family connected with the wilds and the real history of what our great country once was too many years ago with the fur trappers/hunters were making a modern day connection.  At first buying the property was intended for just hunting.  After a while we figured a weekend get a way and even taking vacations to my camp in vt has sure paid off.  My kids went on hikes connecting with nature, feeding the chipmunks captian krunch cereal, they even went tubing on the rivers too, they had a blast everytime we went up there.  My point is we can get involed with our family and kids all thru life and it will continue into our days when we are old too.  This time seems to go by so fast when were working to support our young families.  We kind of get wrapped up in it too never stopping to smell the flowers. Back then i wished i fished more than i did too but the family came first of course.  I think skeet shooting will bring my youngest son around and get him more interested.  I just hope when i pass on my place in vt will still get used and the family bonding will continue well after i'm gone.  My uncles along with hunterfishers dad planted the seed which still continues to grow today in my family.  To me its a family heritage to continue to make the trek north as often as we can to this day and they started as far back as the mid 50's when my uncles first went up there.  The town there hasn't changed much either its still the same little town with no fast food it only has a little country store.  If you need ammo you have to make sure you bring enough because the local hardware store doesn't stock much you may find a box of 30-30  or 30-06 ammo if your lucky.  Its my kind of place its heaven on earth.  In the populated areas now there sticking in every where they can right now.  Its time to move deeper into the farm and country areas to get away from the city people who are invading the suburbs lately too.  My point is if there is land thats still affordable that you can hunt or its near forest you can hunt grab it.  I purchased my land instead of getting a new car.  I just kept my old car running while we enjoyed the land much more.

Its never too late to start:shameon:

Just goes to show that you never know who you'll run into on the net. When I first came to HB I saw a post from BigBill about hunting in the state of Vermont. I replied to it and found out what a small world it is after all. I was born and raised, for the most part, in a little mountain town in that beautiful state. Population; 325 . My Dad had some friends down in Connecticut,  and invited them up to Vt. every year to deer hunt out of our camp. This was back in the late 50's.  These fella's treated me just like anyone else in camp. They made me feel like I was'nt just another 12 yr. old kid. I had my own deer rifle and knew those mountains like the back of my hand. Well,... to make a long story short, BigBill turned out to be the nephew of these gentleman. Although it has been over 50 yrs. since I last saw these friends, '' which are now gone, but far from forgotten'', I find there nephew right here at HB. ..... By the way Bill, ''THANKS,'' for carrying on the tradition. Maybe some day, with the Good Lord will'in, I will be able to come back to Vt. and take-up your invite to hunt deer and moose at your new camp.

hunterfisher;  There's always an open bunk for you when your ready to come up and hunt.  I'm hoping we get our moose tags this year.  I chose a few different areas that i don't even know but i'm sure they won't be too hard to find its mostly in the area around our favorite places to hunt at.  I'm looking forward to deer & bear hunting too this year.  Its time to harvest another one soon i hope.  We been tracking a few big bruins the past few years but while there big there smart too.  Its all about the thrill of the hunt with friends/family who all share the same interests.

I bought one of the Stoeger Condor Combo with the 12 and 20 ga barrels.  Got mine at Dicks on sale too.  It's my first O/U and I don't have anything to compare it to.  It does seem pretty stiff, and the front stock doesn't fit the 12 ga set nearly as well as the 20.  The safety sets automatically on breaking but you can disable that and make it manual.  Also only has the single trigger and extractors unless you go with the Deluxe version.  BUT, it wors as advertised and I really like mine.  Being as it is all I can afford, I ain't complaining at all, was darn cheap for an Over and Under 12/20 ga Combo.  Now I just need to find a cheap used take down case that will hold receiver and both barrels.
