Will I have a problem shooting 00Buck with that Super Full choke?I was concerned about this.I still have the original choke so I can switch back when using 00BUCK.I bought it for shooting #4 to give me a little more effective range for yotes.

It is possible to overchoke a shotty and get the opposite effect, meaning squeezing the pattern so far that it rebounds and spreads rather than reducing the pattern. The only way to tell is testing on pattern boards.

That makes sense ghrit.I hhave some 2 3/4 shells I will try first..The 3 and a 1/2 inch magnums are too brutal to test much with..They would be hell on brush country deer though if they keep a tight pattern..

Be very careful shooting 00 Buck in a tightly choked shotgun, all of my training and range experience with Tactical Shotguns has always shown the best results with a good cylinder bore. I've seen jug choked custom barrels that shot better, but not that much better. When you do your patterning take a cylinder bore gun with you and shoot some patterning shoots from 7 yards back to 25 yards. If it's a good barrel you'll be amazed at how tight and consistent the patterns are. With practice you can shoot 00 and #4 buckshot with near rifle accuracy.

Thanks creekwalker..That makes sense about the patterning..The biggest yote I ever killed me and a buddy were hunting on a river bottom. We were coming out in the morning and I had my 311 Stevens side by with 00 buck.Three yotes come out of thick brush at a full run ,I threw up and blasted the middle one.I carried that yote out about a mile on my shoulders so people would beleive me.He ended up weighing 55 pounds. OO Buck rolled him like a marble at 25 yards..

With a true Full Choke, most guns pattern Buck quite well. Any tighter (SuperFull, Turkey, etc.), patterns usually get pretty badly blown. At 25 yards, anything between Cylinder and Full should work, my personal preference being Mod or IM.
On another note - unless you're handloading that 00 Buckshot, you more'n likely aren't shooting 00 Buck. Federal and Winchester are both loading shot .317" to .318", smaller than 0 Buck, and calling it 00. I don't know about Remington, I've only been able to get a couple of boxes of 000 from them. It measures .360", a true 000. Might not make much difference to most folks, but I like to get what's advertised when I buy factory loads (a rare happening).
Coyote-sized animals, TT, F or FF shot makes a wicked mean load, but that's handloading them. I don't think any factory loads those sizes.

The only real way to know is to pattern it with the choke and see how it shoots. Most of the time Mod or Standard full give you the best pattern with buckshot.

One thing I always try and do when I select any type of "Super Full" choke is to pick one of the extended types. Reason being is your placing the maximum restriction of the choke itself outside past the end of the barrel. I purchased a couple of "Super Full" extended chokes from Rhino Chokes for my Beretta 686 Onyx when I shoot Handicap Trap with it. The extra length of these chokes helps also. Bill T.
