Ain' t none. You can find 12 and 20 gauge cheap, but never .410. Besides, I have af eeling after you shoot it a few times, you are not going to be needing a whole bunch

"Cheap" and ".410" don't come anywhere near each other. WalMart sells promotional Winchester and Remington dove and quail loads for $4 plus change around here,  their .410 stuff is $8 or $9.

If you shoot enough of them, a MEC 600 Jr for $125 or so might be worth looking into.

I will think about a press, after i shoot it a little more. I am wanting it for a coyote gun. So dove and quail loads may work and that is cheaper than other stuff i have seen. Thanks, Pat

When I worked at the Remington plant I hated running the 410 press!  The thing is a 36 position nightmare!!!  On a good night, I'd only get 65,000 of them made(compared to a 12 gauge press making 1,000,000+).  The only machine harder to run was the 8 gauge press.

We don't have any cheap 410 shells at GanderMtn, and we're having difficulty get slugs in 410 at this time?

Opps, I left out the 12 and 20 gauge after "promotional".

I read an article about using 444 Marlin shells in place of 410 shotgun shells. Seemed to work out very well and used felt wads and a cardboard top cap sealed with liquid glass.

Just go to MidwayUSA and order 25 brass .410 cases, can prime them with a Lee or RCBS hand primer, they use large pistol primers.
Plastic shotcups will be a bit small, but you can take care of that with an over powder card.
No crimping, just glue a card wad on top the shot.
The cases will last a long time, you can  load from #9 to the factory, 3 , 000 buckshot.

I use Elmer's carpenter's glue, others use hot glue, I suppose just plain white glue would do fine.
The powder and wad would depend on what you can find, I got some shot cup/ wads at a gunshow, the fiber I use over the powder is from some 35 year old Alcan 20 ga wads, I just break up some and use a wood dowel to pack about a 1/4" on the powder.Universal, Herco, 2400 all should work, just check some older loads and start light, work up to the velocity you want.
Most anv velocity over 1200fps is a waste of powder in shotguns unless you are using slugs.
The  really poor BC of a ball sheds velocity like a persian cat shedding hair in May.

Thanks drinks i appreciate it. I found some fiber wads in midway maybe i will try some. I just got home and had three raccoons in my apple tree. Using 4 shot my little pistol got the job done. The pattern sure spreads fast with just that 3 inch barrel. Thanks again I may have more questions a little later on. Thanks Pat:thumbs:

Pat, I have a Lee loader for .30-30, the decapping rod does fine but a rod could be made of a 50 or 60 d nail by filing or grinding it to a flat point and then grinding or filing it to about .070" for about 3/8" length.
If you have the Lee hand primer, one of the shell holders in the set will work, but I have replaced a primer by just starting the primer in the pocket, placing the case , base down, on a smooth flat surface and using a wood dowel and a plastic hammer, drive the case on the primer.

Pat, I have been playing with the .410 on another forum, worked up a slug and loads for it, for use in a open choke .410, such as the Snakecharmer, would not be much help in your .45/.410.
I also developed a load using 4, .34" balls, using a op wad of 1/4" of nitro card, cut the wads from 20ga wads with a 7/16" hollow punch, use 12 gr of Herco and a top card wad, I am now using nail polish to stick the top wad, much faster drying than the Elmer's.
Velocity was over 1500fps and at 15 yds all 4 pellets hit in a 2" group.
I am going to start on shot loads next, but managed to hurt my knee and have missed being in the shop the last couple of days.
Using a Federal 410-SC plastic wad/ shotcup over the 1/4" nitro card wad gives a good seal with no smoking of the outside of the cases, the factory wad/shotcups are quite a bit smaller than the brass cases and will not seal by themselves.
A .30-40 or .303 Brit. shell holder works to hold the cases for priming.
I shall report after a bit more work.
It gripes my German/ Scot heart to pay $1.30 for slug loads when I can make my own for 6 cents and pay .52 cents per shot shell when I can make them for 11 cents each, shot I have to buy, I cast the slugs.

Pat, I have a nice slug load for .410 open choke shotguns but it would probably not do well in your pistol which should be .452"  the .410 open choke I have is .413", if a person wanted to use it with a full choke .410, most of them are, I would make a "X" size mold, .397, rather than the "Z" size I made, .413. I measured a full choke .410 and it was .395.
I started with a 2 hole Lee mold for a .356 pb rn used u,v, w, x ,y and z bits in succession to open the mold out, then drilled it .850" deep.
I did keep it centered, bullets drop right out.
Using 12gr Herco, a 1/4" nitro card wad  and a card stock top wad I got 2" groups at 15 yds and a muzzle velocity of 1500fps avg, I drilled the base 9/32 x 1/2" deep, weight is then 190 gr and I had no keyholing.
Using 4227 I should be able to get it up to 1700-1800 fps with no problems.
I have now worked up a shot load, using the same 12gr Herco, a file card wad on the powder, a Federal 410sc wad and sleeve unit, a Lee 2.8cc dipper, which holds 210gr of shot, I counted 190 pellets, and another filecard wad on top, sealed with nail polish, I got 94 pellets in a 8x11 1/2 " target at 15 yds and 22 at 25 yds with the open choke.
With my full choke Western Field, I got 85 at 15yds and 37 at 25yds, I found the sxs shoots low and all the shot was in the lower 1/3 of the paper, I need to get some butcher paper and find out where it is shooting.
