Most 8 gauge shotshells are fired in an industrial type gun for cleaning out grain silos. When I use working at Remington Ammunition I made 100's of thousands of these rounds for just that purpose. The only loading we made was a 3oz slug! Ouch!!!

When you can afford it, I'm thinking you'll have to locate an antique or have one built.
Not a real practical gun, but probably would be a lot of fun to have.

Tolley side by side is your best bet.......
Not sure if it is even possible to get an industrial version? Pedestal mount guns are a pain anyway.....

Isn't there a law somewhere saying the 10 gauge is the maximum legal for hunting?

Is this practical for any real hunting? I know a 4 gauge is slighty bigger than a military 20mm shell.
In Powell Ohio, at the Powder Room, there was a box of 8 gauge slugs that the owner had onhand. They were meant for use in a slaughter house type of environment. He had them for some conversation starters, to see if anyone knew what they were for.
Attached is a picture of a 4 gauge shell next to a 12 gauge. Big honkin shell.

i dont intend to hunt with it or own one for a while but just learn about them. but wow a 4 gauge, hmmmm for an industrial use or shooting a freakin whale. man you could wax a few ducks... or 7, in one shot. i didnt even know they made a 4 gauge, and whats a 2 gauge; a 4 lb cannon? oh well back to subject i just wanted to shoot stuff and bust clays.

There are 2 Gauge guns out there, I can swear to their existence, but I have heard about some out there.
Shoulder firing something like this may not be healthy.

My granfather told some stories about market gunning in Chesapeake Bay. Now, I cannot attest to the accuracy, but he mentioned shotguns loaded with a pound of black powder and a pound of shot (or screws, nails, or whatever scrap metal was lying around.) These were called punt guns that were fixed in a punt and pointed at rafting ducks at some distance so the shot would spread out. He said you had to be sure the punt was aimed where you wanted to go because the recoil would move things right along. Market gunning was legal at the time, not yesterday by any means.
It is the pound/pound part that I have a hard time with, not the punt gun idea. After all, he was a democrat.
