| Yes and no. Depends on what gun you are shooting them out of (weight, action, recoil pad, recoil reduction systems, etc), how heavy a load your shooting, and how hot that load is loaded. Generally yes a 3.5 in gun has more recoil than a 3 in or 2.75 in, but not enough to shy away from it in my opinion. Hope this helps, C.C.

Apples to apples (gun to gun) the larger charge results in greater recoil, period. corn-county is right, different guns will give different felt recoil, which is what you are concerned with when the trigger is pulled. You should not suffer too badly, but if your experience is limited to trap loads, those 3-1/2s will get your attention the first time; after that, it's a cake walk.

Just for a comparison, a 2 ¼ ounce “Turkey Load” at 1,250 FPS would have about the same recoil as a .416 Rigby shooting a 400 grain bullet at 2,450 FPS and it would have more recoil than a .458 Winchester, 500 grains at 2,000 FPS. That’s assuming all 3 guns are the same weight.
If the gun fits you, the recoil will get your attention, but won’t be unmanageable.

My brother has this Russian built side by side 12 Ga that shoots the 3 1/2 Mags. The rifle is very heavy so the recoil in minimal.
If I was going to shoot those things in something the size and weight of my 870, that would be a different story, the 3 1/2 would give greater recoil.
