What do you do with a tightly choked shotgun that has to be multi-purpose? Can't even hit a running rabbit?
One solution is to load a shell with a + shaped partition made from thin cardboard. Index card stock works well. You actually make this + from two pieces, each bent in an L and fitted into the shot cup. Fill each cavity with #6 shot and finish with a crimp.
The shot is spread out about the same as improved cylinder at short distances. Makes a big difference in hitting running rabbits.
This is not an original idea. I read about it in FUR-FISH-GAME many years ago.

Reading an old Montgomery-Ward catalog (a reprint, somewhere in the 1920's), I saw an ad for the cardboard spreader, along with loading directions. What kind of amused me was the last couple of lines. They said that if you still had room in your shell, to just fill it out with by adding more powder or more shot until the shell was full. No powder was specified, but I guess they were using either Black or Dupont's Bulk. Try that with today's powders.
Another thing that grabbed my attention about that catalog and an old Sears catalog was the fact that both had more pages of guns, ammunition and knives for sale than they had of clothing. This country wasn't always full of do-gooders and antis.

Spreader loads used to be loaded with square shot , to make them spread out quicker.
