For 12 GA 2 3/4 I'd go with Win AA or Rem STS simply because they are readily available and that's what I could find the most data for. Unless you go the Ballistic Products route and use all of their components and data. $$$$$ though. RD

Hello Jerry!.....Well I would go the route of Winchester double A's for a 12-gauge 2 & 3/4 hull. Another one is Blue Magic but I don't think you can get those anymore. I have 3000 downstairs to load up yet and two large boxes of Double A's to stuff full of shot.

Remingtons last the longest of any that I know of, but when loading hunting loads I usually grab some Federal paper hulls. They load and shoot as good as most, don't last for many reloads, but when I shoot them, they just smell so daggone good - especially when I shoot a Green Dot load.
For ease of loading and long life, Remington Gun Club, Promo or STS.

There's a lot of data for Federal Gold Medal hulls too. That's the hull of preference for me.
Get the Lyman Shotshell Manual, 5th edition. Lots of slug and buck data.

like a lot of others say, Winchester AA. I think it safe to say the AA's are the most common hulls in the USA. and the gold metal and other Remington hulls in second.

I have the Lyman 5th edition loading book.
It's getting the hulls and then figure out how to load them,
Ang one ever cast Lee mold 90406, it gives a .311 ball. I was think of those for large water fowl and othetr things.
Any ideas for making shot like 00, 2, 4 shot.
Thanks,
Jerry

I use LEE molds to cast .308", .311", .319", .330", .360", .575", .600" and .690" balls. I load a lot of shells that some folks would consider a bit unusual. Large Waterfowl, bad idea. Illegal in this country and a low pellet count even if it was legal - the lead shot ban. Good for other things.
Any ideas for making shot like 00, 2, 4 shot.
00, cast it with a .330" mold. #2, #4 are harder. Small shot, #9 through #6, can be made with a Littleton or Stewart Shotmaker. #5 through about BBB needs a shot tower. T through #2 Buck, that stuff is swaged.

Colt,
Thanks, I will probably have to buy the shot or buy a couple of boxes for the migratory birds, except my Canadian Geese don't migrate, they even have a Wester Virginia accent.

I second that.
As for reloading slugs: While AA and STS hulls may be more readily available, I've found the best hulls for loading slugs to be Federal Gold Medals....they are more of a straight walled tube, which makes loading the slug a heck of a lot easier, and they have a larger internal capacity, which gives you more powder options if you choose to go with a bulkier powder.

Thanks, for the advice. The geese are so plentiful around my place, I can walk up them with a baseball ball instead of a shotgum. You don't want to get any closer, they can gang up on you and break your legs. They must be mobed up.
