I've already asked this question over in Shotgun World and wondered if anyone here might be able to help.

I'm looking for a 12G inertia-operated semi with screw in chokes.

I've narrowed it down to the Benelli UltraLight (called the Beccaccia in Europe) and the Breda Xanthos. The Breda has a steel receiver and conventional locking bolt whilst the BUL uses the rotating bolt and (I think) an Ergal receiver.

The BUL is a known quantity and I already own a SuperNova. The Xanthos has beautiful wood and is only slightly heavier than the BUL. Anyone used this or its stablemate the Chiron - the new models have only recently started to be imported into the UK after a break of many years so, it's difficult to find someone who shoots one over here.

Regards

Andy

I have experience with benelli. Have you held the super black eagle II? Its awsome. but between the two the ultra light will have more performance and the other looks good. I've never shot an auto loader enough to have it jam. all I know is that benelli is the best you can get in america. unless your going to be crawling in mud all day go with the one whos name i cant spell. but if you are, as in goose hunting in the rain, get the ultra light. the ultra light just wont impress your feinds as much.

Hi Novashooter,

Thanks for the comments. The BUL is certainly a great contender and I like the way it looks! Unfortunately, in the UK shotguns have to be made so that they can only fire a maximum of two shots from a magazine (total 3). The magazine tubes have to be permanently fixed into the reciever (so they cannot be changed) and the tube has to be permanently shortened or crimped to limit it to hold two ctgs. As the BUL comes from the factory with a 2 shot tube it won't need to be modified. Also, light weight is a plus as I will only use 67mm - 70mm case length ctgs. - no magnums or high vel. loads.

Cheers

Andrew
