I spotted these at BPI and was wondering anyone had loaded these. If so, what was your load for this slug?

Thanks,

Jerry

I used the smoothbore version of these but wasn't impressed. They got 5" groups and 1 out of 25 tumbled. I think that had more to do with my loading though. I just found some for cheap at a garage sale and made about 50. My loads were at 1300 fps and kicked like mules. I would have to say the AQ's are better. at 1500 fps they are 2x as accurate and their recoil is more of a firm push compared to the DGS's sharp snap. The only thing good is the DSG slug is good for is that is is easy to load. It has a built on wad and the blue force is a 1 piece sabot. The AQ isn't difficult but it does take quite a bit more time. Try it I'm sure it will do a number on a hog.

Nova,

What powder and load did you use?

Jerry

I'm not sure, I lost that slug manual. I know it was in a fiocchi hull, and I beleive a CCI primer. But it wasn't the sabot. If you have the stuff I'm sure I can ask around for the same manual.

I tend to have a lot of stuff on hand, I have a lot of RXP hulls on hand at the moment as well as BPI 2 3/4 and 3 inch hulls, a bunch of Winchester hulls that I haven't cleaned up yet.

I have wads, primers, a limited selection of powders, but that can change.

So any and all information would be appreciated.

Jerry

Well with Remington 1 piece hulls (as in RPX) I have a load that got 1" groups in my H&R single shot.

the load...

hull- 2 3/4" rem. one-piece hulls
primer- win 209
powder- 27gr. 800x
wad- claybuster 1 1/8oz wads
slug- buckbuster shotgun bullets
crimp- fold

velocity- 1450

You look at it and say "that will never be accurate" Then you try it and your jaw just drops and you are instantly amazed. It gets 1" groups in my H&R with a scope, and 1.5" groups in my thin barreled H&R with iron sights. All these are at 50 yards. At 100 yards they both get about 3" groups and drop about 1".

Try them. They are so simple, and easy to load. Not to mention they cost less than a lot of trap loads on the for sale.
