Anyone using Ranier Bullets? An acquantance turned me onto them and I gotta say I like em. I am using .40 cal 155gr Flat Point copper plated instead of jacketed. They cost about half as much and for target shooting and plinking, they perform exactly the same. They cost about $30 for 500 from Midway, or you can save some money and order direct.....if you order 35,000  They are actually call them totally copper jacketed as the base is plated as well, supposed to be better if you shoot indoors, no lead vapors or something.

I've used a lot of them, for the price they work real good. Last year I was doing a test of powder/primer/temperature performance and needed 600 bullets that were fairly uniform. Rainiers were fine and didn't kill my wallet. For general target shooting, they work great.

A couple of minuses - at high velocity, in the .357 hot load area, they seem to foul the bore more than other bullets, and the performance of their hollowpoints is pretty dismal.

They aren't really a substitute for name brand JHPs.
I'm not convinced they're a half step over good lead bullets, either.
They are difficult to load in progressives, and have their own set of problems.
But if I'm doing speed drills they are as good as I need.
Paying for more than you need doesn't really make a lot of sense, either.
