Years ago, they were the premier projectile for many of us. I've order a many 'bulk' bullet packs from them and sorted through them. Sorting is the key.
Bullets were weighed one by one and placed into containers for loading at a later date. Wasn't to 'picky', just sorted by .2gr increments, and no comparing of ogive was even considered.
Loaded some .308Win with Varget and used a benchrest primer. Groups at 100 yards were okay, measuring under .5"(this was a 10-shoot group). Kinda of makes you wonder why you need a $50.00 100-pack of bullets with a pretty wrapper!?

Core locts were an early premium bullet design. Yes, there are better bullets out there today. Does that mean that suddenly corelocts don't work anymore? Hell no, they are still good bullets for about 98% of the hunting done in the US.

I havent been reloading very long, but i expect its like anything else the more you do it the more you try to get the as good as you can..
core lokts have always worked very well for me on game.. is there better bullets that are more consistant out there.. yes i am sure there is.. my thoughts on it are, if your going to reload to shoot more go with a less expensive round and have fun playing around with different loads..and if your concerned with its effectivness on game than use a better one for your hunting load and use the cheaper for your plinking load..
i guess that just my thoughts on it.. i do the same for my pistol.. i use cheap for shooting at the range and have worked up a good home defense load..
just my thoughts

The 185 Core-Lokt bullets are the most acurate in my Czech Mod 98 in 8x57 Mauser, they shoot under an inch in a rifle that was made in 1945.

I used them for over 12 yrs in AK -factory loads cause they were cheap and could be found in every village-- took most game in AK from brown bears to deer--just switched bullet weight-- in my 06--Then i got into reloading and had some more $$ so i went to 338- 416 rem--300 win mag etc-- but got a freebie deal on 15,000 or so Fail Safe bullets so used them for a year but they sucked so i went to Noslers-- now I'm going back to Core lokts to try a new load-- been using them in my wifes 270 for 8 or 9 years-- I now live in Wisc so some of need for big cal and bullets has dimished--

They have worked for years and will continue to do so. Yep there are better bullets out there, but I wouldn't give up on them

I shot a bunch of them when I lived in Wyoming. Never had a single bullet failure on a big game animal. I was loading mostly .243 and 7mm/08 with the CLs. It was nice not to wince ($$$) every time I sent a bullet down range working up a load.

I used Remington ammo with a 125 gr core lok in my sks for 15 years to deer hunt with. Never lost one I shot at. Never tried a shot more than 125 yards.
Good bullet.

Probably 50% of the game animals I've killed have been with factory loaded core-locs. I think they are about like anyother rifle/bullet combo , some rifles like them and some don't.

Core-lokt bullets shoot better than anything else I can find in my 30-06. They also shoot great in my 30-30. They have killed more whitetail deer than I can remember.
