Has anybody used the 130 gr .277 Accubonds? What did you think of them and how accurate were they in your rifle?

Morning TIMBER >> I've been waiting for Nosler to start making the 130 gr. AccuBond for the .277 class. I believe the 140's that GUNRUNNER received are all that's out, at this time. If you've seen otherwise, maybe I need to just look harder for them. I like the 130 gr. Ballistic Tip in my .270. That's the bullet weight I'll be sticking with. So I wait. Same with the 120 AccuBond in the .264 class. I need those buggers to come out for my WinMag, as well. And a 265 gr. AccuBond in .358 would be swell, for the STA. Ya don't think I'm asking for to much to quickly, do ya . Have a good day, fellas. >> klallen

Mornin Klallen.I thought theyw ere out in the 130 gr weight.I may be wrong.I am like you in regards to the 130 gr bullet in the 270 Winchester case.I do not care much for the heavier bullets in my 270 as the 130`s have always been good deer and hog killers for me.I will take a look and see if they are out yet.If they aren`t,Nosler should rethink their bullet weight. Most veteran 270 shooters in these parts are strictly 130 gr loaders..

Klallen, the 140gr is the only weight I've seen in .277 for the Accubond so far. I was using various 130gr bullets for a while, but when I started testing the 140's and my groups got smaller that became my favorite bullet weight. At least for now. Give Nosler a couple months and they'll probably be making them in the 130 and 150gr weights. Seems like it took them a while to get the Partition out in more than one weight, so I imagine the same is true with the Accubond.
Timber, I wish I could say my computer is fixed. I think I killed it while attemting to fix some stuff by myself. Not sure what the virus was but I definitely didn't have enough protection on my system. I have all my info on back up discs or written down, so I can set things up again, I hope. Now I'm on the wifes 'puter, but I don't like hers as much. At least the weather is finally nice and I can go shooting more. I'll be trying out those Accubonds real soon here.

Hey Timber the 140 gr is all that Nosler offers in the .277 cal., in the AccuBond. I purchased two boxs of the Hornady 130 gr Interbonds for my 270 Win. because of this. The 140 gr AccuBond is what i load in my 270 WSM.

I have the 140 gr loaded for the 270 Win Short but haven't had time to try them. I have three different powder charges with MagPro loaded to see how they group. Will try them soon.

My firt try with the 140gr Accubonds didn't go as well as I'd hoped. With 57gs of H4831sc my best three shot group was 7/8". Noslers manual gives a max charge of 58gs and also shows that's where they got the best accuracy. I'll be loading some more up with 57.5 and 58gs. Didn't chrono it, but might do that next time out.

7/8 inch groups in a Big Game hunting rifle isn't all that bad. Very few big game animals will get away at the distant most people should be shooting .

Bea, as far as hunting accuracy goes you're right on. This Model 70 has shown me enough 1/2" groups with various bullets that I get a bit frustrated when a new bullet doesn't show similar results. But I've only done one shooting with one load so far. I think with the right powder/primer/etc this bullet will shoot great. It's a tough job but somebody has to test this stuff. Luckily I love my job.

I tried some more 140gr Accubonds last week. I even broke out the chrono. With 58gs of H4831SC and a WLR primer they shot just over MOA at both 100 and 200 yards. Some wind didn't help. And the trigger nut was loose that day. The velocity seemed slow with an average of 2,855 fps. I was hoping for about 2,900. The Nosler manual is claiming 3,000 fps with this load and the same length barrel. Since everything like bolt lift, primer appearance, etc looked good I'll load a few up with a bit more powder. I'm not really looking for higher velocity, but if it gets me better accuracy I'll take it.

Hey Timberghozt , Haven't had much to do with the accubond in .277 but I just used Hornady SST today . A fella brought me rifle that he was having trouble with . It wouldn't give him a good group with factory ammo . He's happy now . From 2'' to this ! Regards - Bullet

I too am looking forward to using the 140 grain Accubonds in my 270 Win. M70 FWT Classic in the weeks ahead.
I've been busy with some other loads in 22-250 and 300 Roy and hope to start the loading of some new 257 Bob, 270 and 30-06 soon. Will post when I get the chance!

Well, I've been out twice more testing the Accubonds. Last week I took six
rounds with 58gs H4831sc and a WLRM primer. The first two shots went together
and the next four started walking up the target. Not very impressive.
I had 13 prepped cases left so today I loaded up 58gs, used F210 primer and
rather than seat the bullet to the SAMMI max 3.340" I moved them out to 3.385".
That's as far out as I can get them and still work in the magazine.
Figured I'd take three 3 shot groups and shoot the rest at longer range. I kept
having the first 2 shots almost touch and the 3rd shot go out about 1". On the
third group there was a shift in POI by about 2", but 2 shots still were close to
each other. Hmmmmm. What the heck is going on? Heat? Copper fouling?
I was waiting about 1 1/2 minutes between shots and 10 minutes between groups.
For the last 4 shots I let the barrel cool for at least 5 minutes between each shot.
At 200 yards I hit 1" low and 1 1/2" right, using a dead on hold. On a gong at 300
I aimed a bit high and hit the gong near center. The last two shots were back at
100 yards and they hit right where they should, about 1" above center of the dot,
and almost touching.
These bullets have such a long bearing surface that I figure the barrel just needs
more time to cool than I usually give it. I haven't had this phenomenon while
using the Sierra Gamekings, but their surface is much shorter. As far as copper
goes I haven't seen any signs of excess fouling from the Accubond, so I don't
think that's a problem. Since the first 2 shots are always close I figure this will
make a good large game load. (Provided I make good bullet placement.) I've
only used H4831sc in this Model 70, so maybe I'll get a can of Reloader 22 and
see what it can make the Accubonds do.
