i break in a barrel a little differently than some.

i start by making sure the barrel is as clean as hoppes #9 can get it. then, i'll run a couple patches of barnes cr-10 through it. one more patch of hoppes #9. after that, i shoot as normal. really.

i personally believe barrel break-in is a monumental waste of time and resources. just clean it up good, and go shoot the thing.

I swab out the barrel with Hoppes #9 or Marksman Choice and start shooting.  Then shoot it with a box or two of ammo, nothing like a proof round or steel jacketed.

I first clean as good as I can, then shoot 5 rounds, use forest foam to remove copper, clean/dry with patches, shoot 5 rounds, repeat the foam and cleaning treatment, etc. for the first 50 rounds to go, and then repeat the foam/cleaning treatment after every box of 50 rounds as long as I shoot the barrel.

I followed it and this is what i got

When i first tried to post this the groups wouldnt show very well so i put some blue paper behind them in the scanner so you could see them, thats why they are blue

I agree with Dakotsin to a degree. I recieved my custom .257AI early last year, and I was getting incredibly bad copper fouling right from the start. There were some tiny burrs in the throat from the chamber reamer, and I fired Tubb final finish coated bullets through it according to directions. It took care of that problem straight away. Most of my rifles, I just shoot until the barrel settles in, and of course the loads have an impact on accuracy. But that's what this all about, right? Get out and shoot that rifle, and keep the bore clean. JB bore paste doesn't hurt either for cleaning. When you think you have a barrel clean with Hoppes or whatever, run the JB through it, and you'll be surprised at how black the patch gets.
