I am a fan of 4350 for my .30-06's.  It does well in my rifle.  I get excellent accuracy and reasonable recoil.  The main problem is the long grain powder does not feed well through my powder measures.  I have a Lyman, an RCBS, and a Dillon and they all crunch the long grains.

I am going to change over to ball powder on my next purchase.  What would be a good ball substitute for 4350?

Bountyhunter, check the Accurate arms loading manual. I'm sure that at least one of their ball powders can be used.

Have you ever tried H414?? It is my "go to" powder for several cartridges, and is, of course, a ball powder. It's in the approximate 4350 range.

Good shooting:thumbs:

H414 or Winchester 760. Try some, you'll like it.

I have tried H414, but in the .45 Colt.  It was way much for that.  I had not tried it in the .30-06.  I was sick of the H414 in the .45 and a friend was sick of Unique, so we traded cans.

CORRECTION......WAS H110  NOT H414

I have not tried it in the .30-06.  I know a lot of guys use 760.  I will try some of that as soon as I use up this 4350.  I really like this 4350 except for the feeding through the powder measure.  I have been dipping and trickling the loads into the scale so I dont have to put up with the crunching.  Somewhere in the world of logic, it isnt logical to dip and trickle when you have 3 powder measures sitting there.

I like Accurate powder, I use it in my .45 ACP's, both AA#2 and AA#5.  I didnt see any of their powders close to 4350 on the powder comparison chart.....I shall check again, I like the way it flows.

I can see why you wouldn't like H414 in 45 Colt. You probably only get about 80 or 90 feet per second velocity out of it. I once loaded 4895 into a 45 ACP by mistake. It shot but the bullet hit the target with about the same velocity as if I had hand thrown it.

MY BAD---it was H110.  H110 not H414.  Old timers disease.

Wow, it was wicked in that .45.  I load 270 gr Keiths in that .45 and they were chronoing about 1200.   So, I sez to myself, Self, is there really anything that you can think of that needs that much killing?  And there wasnt, so I backed it down to 10.5 grains of Unique for a comfortable 1100fps.  The H110 was recommended for the hotter loads, but it is just wicked, with recoil and muzzleblast.

I use a Sierra loading manual, I hadnt noticed H414 in it.  I'll double check it.

Hadnt tried 4895 in a ACP, but we did load some ACP's with Black Powder and put them where a mooch could pick them up and use them.  It is interesting the number of places in a 1911 that fire and smoke can escape from.  There also wasnt any doubt as to who was snitching our shells.....

I was pretty sure you were speaking of H110. I tried it in 44 mag and found to be all I ever wanted and more. I gave the H110 to a friend that had an M1 carbine. After all that is what H110 was made for.

Yes, it was developed for the .30 Carbine I think.   It is also good in .410 shotguns.  That is what the guy I traded it to used it for.  Most people keep loaded .410s by the porch doors here for snakes.  ( My wife just got a diamondback on our steps that weighed 16-1/2# and was 5'8" long.)

I had a .30 carbine Blackhawk.  It was totally wicked to shoot.  I traded it for a .45.

I think you should upgrade to a 12 guage or even a 10 guage. Anything worth doing is worth over doing.

No kidding.  I was getting ready to go to town and I hear her yell, "Bring my pistol," so since I was already heeled I went out and gave her my .45 and she plugged him.

I'll dig up her picture one of these days.  5'4 of her with that snake and a big cheesy grin.

Good chart.  Thanks.

My home turf is up in the middle of the 5 Lakes area, NC area.  I know Kansas pretty well having grown up there and worked there till the last 5 years.  I dont recognize your swamp though.

Wheez, I looked at that chart on the website you had posted. It shows Reloader 19 to be the same burn rate as that of H-4350. I can safley tell you that is not the case. 4350 is somewhere around 4831 and maybe a little slower. I use Hodgedon's  burn rate chart on their web site which I printed off. It appears more accurate to me.

i am not familiar with RL19 but i am with H4350 and H4831.i can tell you that there isnt any way that 4350 is slower than 4831. all burn rate charts are approximate.in some cases two different powders which are close may appear to switch which one is the fastest, depending on what load they are used in.a good reason to work up a load. The same can be said for load manuals.just because a certain combination of components gives a specific pressure DOES NOT MEAN IT WILL IN YOUR APPLICATION. everything is a variable.

The article Reloading For the M1 Rifle indicates using W 748 .A  garand owner used the data  and  put 3 shots in the x ring. 150gr Sierra MatchKing HPBT ,Fed 210M primer,49gr in a Fed =2753 fps;Lake City M 49gr=2775 fps;Lake City  49gr= 2795fps & Fed 50gr=2803 fps.other powders such as  BL C(2) & H-335 will give performance like w748. My OHAUS DUO 7200 Powder Measure  works better with hodgdon sc extruded powders, flake and ball. For extruded powders I weigh my charges. I have Hodgdon's  Reloading Data Manual #19 that lists powder BL C 2 1 lb for $2.50 .

Bountyhunter, I have used AA-2520 and AA-2700 in my 30-06 with good success, with 165 gr b-tips.
