| I went out yesterday to load 50 rounds for my 204 Ruger and I found that I only had Remington 6.5 small rifle primers. Well, I primed all 50 rounds and by that time it was the end of the day and I came in. Since then, I have looked around at all the re-loading sites and just about ever body is recommending a 7.5 or Federal 205M, both of which are marginally thicker than the 6.5. Have any of you guys used the 6.5 primer or CCI 400 or Winchester SR both of which are about the same thickness as the 6.5. Reading through a lot of other forums, guys were using the Winchester primers quite a bit without anyone mentioning a problem. They also mentioned CCI, but not which one.

I would recommend that you try to stick with the thicker primers, I use the Remington 7.5 and cci 450 in my .204! the .204 is a magnum cartridge in all but name! if you start pushing the bullets to max velocity your gonna want as thick a primer cup as you can get! my 2cents
also depending on your chosen powder you can very quickly reach top pressures, I use benchmark and h335, I have tried blc-2 it's not a bad powder but it is very temprature sensitive, here in Texas the weather changes very quickly, It can be 75 to 90 degrees one day and jump to 99 or over 100 the next, I don't use blc-2 because of that, just one bad experience was enough for me

| I was going to load with Hodgdon 4895. I guess I could down load to pressures of around 40,000 per the Hodgdon manual and use these primers until my local gunshop can get some 7.5s. Or since I really cannot do anything today just call tomorrow and have them get some 7.5 primers. One more question. I used the 6.5s to load for my 22 Hornet, a caliber I really love. Not a long distance shooter, but efficient cartridge, easy to load, reasonably accurate and just fun to shoot. Have you used the 7.5s in the 22 Hornet and if so have they effected accuracy to the good or bad?

| I'm sorry I have no experience with the .22 hornet, I know compared to the .223 and the .204 it's a very mild cartridge, I'd hang on to the 6.5 primers use them in the hornet and use the beefier primers in your .204, somebody that knows more about the .22 hornet needs to answer that question, I load for the.204 and the.223, I've been loading for the .204 about 4years now, I am a total .204 devotee!

I have very good luck using H 4895 and Federal 205M primers in my 204. I was told that the 205M's and the 205"s have the same cup thickness. The 205M's work for me and i see no need to change.
You might go to 204ruger.com and checkout the reloading section, It helped me a lot.
